Our favorite season has finally arrived, and we can now wear all the hottest Spring/Summer trends. That’s right! The fashion that was shown on the runways last September has hit the stores. But what should you buy? We took a look at the the Spring 2023 runway collections from New York, London, Milan and Paris and put together a list of our favorite trends.
Not only are these trends the ones for all women to watch, but they are especially suitable for women over 50. When we reach this age, we know what we like, and what we will actually wear! And we also know that we can still rock the trends and have a little fun when it comes to fashion.
It’s not that we need to wear all the latest trends, but we certainly like to! So here are 9 of the best Spring 2023 fashion trends for women over 50.

Best Spring 2023 Fashion Trends for Women Over 50
There were many familiar looks from past seasons and a lot of silhouettes trending towards the 80s and 90s. Our top picks for women over 50 include Cargo Pants and Pockets, Oversized Modified Menswear Shirts, Clean Minimalist Suits, Dots Done Right, Sleek Column Maxi Dresses, Asymmetrical Skirts, Spring Green, Fringe and Textures and Florals In 3D.
1. Cargo Pants and Pockets
Cargo pants and pockets were everywhere on the Spring 2023 runways. And who doesn’t love pockets? They are perfect for the woman on-the-go to securely store essentials. Designers showed a variety of styles from shiny satin cargo pants in sorbet colors at Fendi, to parachute style wide leg pants with a matching zipper bustier at Brandon Maxwell, to built-in cargo pockets on a trench at Sacai.

2. Oversized Modified Menswear Shirts
We love a great menswear shirt for spring (or any time) and this season designers modified and supersized button ups in a big way! Christian Dior showed a perfectly draped dolman-style shirt, Carolina Herrera went prim and proper with puff sleeves and peg pants (very 80’s), and Dries Van Noten contrasted a huge menswear shirt in a light lavender with a brown ruffled shirt. Somehow it works!

3. Clean Minimalist Suits
This is one 90s look we are happy to see again. Clean, muted-hued minimalist pant suits are back for Spring 2023. From the office to a cocktail party these suits make us look chic and pulled together with ease. Find the fabric and proportions you like, from a slightly sporty vanilla number at Jil Sander, to a sleek column of blush pink at Victoria Beckham, to a sleeveless linen pant suit at Alberta Ferretti.

4. Dots Done Right
We are not huge fans of polka-dots, but this season they are done right! Some of the best were a drool-worthy dot-print set at Saint Laurent, a sheer polka dot scarf over a tonal dot print denim jacket at Burberry and a geometric and organic mixed dot print ensemble at Proenza Schouler.

5. Sleek Column Maxi Dresses
Every season we like to highlight an evening look, and these sleek maxi dresses for spring 2023 were a standout. You can be a long cool woman in one of these dresses. Saint Laurent showed a shiny leopard print maxi with slightly padded shoulders, Ann Demeulemeester added a bit of side ruching to basic black, and Elie Saab stunned us with a creamy white column dress with gold metallic detail at the waistline. All these details make these dresses easier to wear for women over 50.

6. Asymmetrical Skirts
These aren’t your disco scarf hemlines, but more of a modern slant on skirts and dresses. These high/low hems are very flattering and add a casual element to a maxi. From a tactile and textural skirt in lime at Bottega Veneta, to a belted cream draped dress at Brandon Maxwell to a black caftan at Stella McCartney, these asymmetrical skirts are ones to add to your spring 2023 wardrobe.

7. Spring Green
One of our favorite colors of the season is spring green! Pantone calls it “Classic Green” and it made their list of Spring/Summer 2023 NYFW top 10 fashion colors. We think they are right, it is a classic and one you will keep for years to come. This color is easier to wear than some of the neon highlighter colors that were on the runways for spring 2023. This gorgeous spring green color saturated look spanned from a two-piece pants set at Lela Rose, to a classic trench at Akris to a flowing one shoulder gown at Elie Saab.

8. Textures and Fringe
We have seen a lot of texture and fringe in recent seasons, and it’s here to stay for spring 2023. We like the refined yet still bold approach of a long fringe sleeveless black top with trousers at Micheal Kors, the perfect placement of fringe on the cuffs and hem of a knit top and skirt at Bottega Veneta and the all-out approach of feathery tone on tone cream fringe wrap at Jil Sander.

9. Florals In 3D
There were not as many floral prints on the runways, but they sure bloomed in 3D! Flowers literally popped out. Gathered fabric and dimensional floral appliques created corsages on tops, skirts and dresses. The range included everything from a huge rosette on the shoulder of a coral red gown at Carolina Herrera to small floral shapes cascading on jersey at Dries Van Noten to an oversized floral applique on the front of bright yellow maxi dress at Lela Rose.
