The Fall 2022 Fashion Weeks wrapped up last March, but now that the season is approaching so it’s time to review the trends. Let’s take a good look at all the collections and the standout trends from New York, London, Milan and Paris. Most of the Fall 2022 fashion trends we saw were a continuation of the Spring 2022 trends, including; suits, crochet, fringe, sheer looks, broad shoulders, wider leg pants, and also retro elements from the 80s, 90s and Y2K. And there were plenty of your typical fall trends including; menswear, tweed fabrics, knits, leather and long coats. Yet many of the trends seem to define something fresh and new for fall 2022, which are the ones we have highlighted here.
Best Fall 2022 Fashion Trends for Women Over 50
As usual, not all of the runway looks are always the best for women over 50 (or for women of any age for that matter). But we found plenty of trends that are quite wearable that we can get excited about for fall 2022.
Here are 9 of the best Fall 2022 trends for women over 50.

1. Corseted Looks
One dominant trend on the Fall 2022 runways was corsets and bustiers. And the looks were quite varied. Versace showed a wearable midi-length citrus-hued dress with a built in bustier with straps and seaming, Fendi layered a crisp cotton corset with an asymmetrical peplum over a buttoned up white shirt and shearling shirt for day and Dion Lee showed a shiny leather corset over a slinky knit with a hoodie which gave off a sleek and sporty vibe. Leave the strapless looks to the younger set. Layered is the best way to wear this trend for women over 50.

2. Oversized Moto Jackets
One of the most versatile fall jackets is back in a big way – literally! A variety of motorcycle jackets were shown for fall 2022 in an oversized silhouette. Chloe showed a basic black over the hip length moto jacket with roomy shoulders, Prada showcased huge shearling versions with contrasting layered sweaters and lace skirts (think throw on over anything) and Louis Vuitton‘s aviator style in leather goes to work over trousers and a menswear tie.

3. Furry Knits
Furry knits are a warm welcome for Fall 2022. These cozy fabrications added a soft and touchable texture to many runways looks, including a bright red eyelash knit sweater with jeans at Isabel Marant, a long winter white strong shouldered sweater dress at Sportmax and a cap sleeve shell in black furry knit over grey wool trousers for an elegant look at Gauchere.

4. Ankle Grazing Skirts
There were many floor-skimming skirts for fall 2022, but designers also offered more practical, ankle grazing versions to get you around with ease in the rain and sleet this fall. Chanel showed a colorful classic check skirt with a matching shirt tucked in and belted, Proenza Schouler‘s black cocoon shape asymmetrical hem skirt punctuated a bright iris sequin top, and Max Mara went tonal with a fitted turtleneck and fur fannypack. Note the flat shoes and boots, which makes this look easy-to-wear.

5. Strong Shouldered Suits
Broad shoulders reined supreme, especially when it came to pant and skirt suits. Valentino went bold with a super-oversized jacket with crisp wide leg pants in vibrant head-to-toe fuchsia (called Valentino Pink PP), Prada balanced strong shoulders perfectly with a nipped waist and full skirt in gray flannel, and nothing is more elegant and powerful for evening than the sharp-shouldered tuxedo jacket and pants at Saint Laurent.

6. Wide Leg Pants
The wide leg pants on the runways were looking more flattering than in recent years. Louis Vuitton showed creamy high-waisted trousers with soft buttoned down pleats, Alberta Ferretti belted flat front wide legged pants in bold cinnamon worn with a jewel-tone sapphire sweater and deep purple long overcoat, and Ralph Lauren showed a more modified classic wide leg trouser in winter white worn with basic black.

7. Non-fall Colors for Fall
Yes, we saw our share of browns, olives, rusts and mustard for Fall 2022, but many collections offered not so typical colors for fall. And they are gorgeous! Stella McCartney had brilliant purple on her mind, Victoria Beckham showcased gorgeous intense colors including a rich teal green, and at Valentino half of the show was in a vivid vibrating fuchsia from head-to-toe. The rest of the collection was basically black. Go bold with color this fall or go home!

8. Not-So-Basic White Shirts and Jeans
We love our classic white shirts with jeans, and the Fall 2022 collections showed the look in new and creative ways. Givenchy went dressy with an oversize pearl collared white top with pearl studded wide leg jeans, Lutz-Huelle showcased a long white shirt dress over spiral color-blocked denim jeans, and Balmain went super-constructed with a broad-shouldered fitted white shirt over slouchy and faded denim jeans.

9. Menswear Midi Coats
Do you have something like this in your closet from the 90s or Y2K? We are happy to report the menswear midi-coat is back for Fall 2022. Alexander McQueen‘s version was shown in black with one large button closure, Sportmax offered an hourglass-shaped waist-nipped midi coat with strong shoulders in tweed and Ralph Lauren showed a fluid long coat in soft menswear glen plaid for a softer look.
