The Cannes Film Festival is always an exciting and glamorous time. So I took a look at the fashion at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 and the best dressed celebrities on the red carpet. Last year the event was kind of a dud, according to the media, but I was thrilled to see this year’s highlights more than made up for it.
Cannes Film Festival 2023 Award Winners
Anatomy of a Fall won the Palme d’Or, making French Film Director Justine Triet the 3rd woman in Cannes history to win the coveted honor. Roberto De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio made quite the impact in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. And stars like Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman, and Harrison Ford shined in May December and Indiana Jones – although the critics didn’t quite love the fifth (and reportedly final) entry into the franchise.
Best Dressed Celebrities On The Red Carpet
The fashion on display was nothing short of awe-inspiring, as elegance, experimentation, and extravagance prevailed. Nearly naked trend aside, the actors, actresses, socialites and supermodels pulled out all the stops. Some embraced the allure of Old Hollywood, while others boldly ventured into uncharted territory, which, for the most part, paid off magnificently. In this feature, I choose to highlight those who truly succeeded in making a lasting impression with their bold, risk-taking looks and not the ones who should have left their strange fashion at home.

This striking royal blue look conjures up images of the finest couturiers and the beauty of the ocean. Model Coco Rocha wore this stunning creation to the annual amfAR gala, which usually has its fair share of standout moments. This year’s fashion was pretty boring, except for Rocha of course.
A pair of Somalian models made quite the statement in their unique looks by Harris Reed and Robert Wun respectively. Ikram Abdi wore a black velvet gown and harlequin pattern complete with a grand headpiece. I’m wondering if anyone else got attention that day? Rawdah Mohamad was able to pull off Robert Wun’s elaborate white ensemble which made her look both like a ghost and a haunted bride.
I was just waiting for someone to wear one of Viktor & Rolf’s whimsical pieces from their Spring Haute Couture 2023 collection and pull it off. Elsa Hosk did just that, and it works perfectly here.
Kate Beckinsale stood out in not one, but two aesthetically pleasing looks by two top haute couture designers. She wore a beautiful blue asymettrically draped look by Tony Ward to the amfAR gala. Then later, she wore Zuhair Murad to the premiere of ‘La Passion De Dodin Bouffant.’ Playful, but interesting, I love that Kate Beckinsale always has fun with couture, and still looks as elegant as ever.
Shay Mitchell certainly leaves little to the imagination in this Cult Gaia Arya gown, but I’m proud she was able to make it look good.
So here’s one dress I’m still not 100% sold on, but it certainly made a statement. Olivia Culpo wore a velvet and taffeta Miss Sohee gown to the premiere of Asteroid City at Cannes and it’s like nothing she’s ever worn before. I can’t figure out whether that is good or bad because I’ve read mostly positive reviews, but I don’t love it.
Standout Gowns from the A-listers
Sometimes I find Cate Blanchett’s style a little too out there, but often, it just works.
I thought Jennifer Lawrence looked quite nice. They made such a big deal out of those flip flops. I felt like she had the easiest night out of all of us. I mean it’s like taking your shoes off when a wedding is at its halfway mark and everyone is drunk and dancing.
Sofia Carson looked stunning in this red hot Elie Saab number.
Natalie Portman took everyone’s breath away in this stunning recreation of a Dior gown from 1949. It is currently part of The Costume Institute’s collection at The Met.
This Dior look on Natalie Portman is also breathtaking.
This unique Prada column gown worn by Scarlett Johansson has an interesting peekaboo bra detail.
Other Standout Looks At The Cannes Film Festival 2023
I have to say, if you’re a curvy girl at a black tie red carpet event, take your cue from Yseult, not Ashley Graham!
Do you have a favorite red carpet look from the Cannes Film Festival? Who do you think was the best dressed?

Tweeted. I always enjoy your posts. And I tend to LOVE the more conservative gowns. Cate Blanchet, for example. Her beauty doesn’t require three boobs or letting in all hang out. SHE HAS TASTE.
