The Oscars 2023 Red Carpet Best Dressed: Fashion Is Back!

No, there weren’t any slaps heard ’round the world this time around. But what the 95th annual Academy Awards lacked in controversial moments, they more than made up for in fashion. I have to say that Oscars fashion is back, baby!

The Oscars 2023 Red Carpet Fashion

I was happy to see so many stunning looks that were never too revealing or too crazy. Old Hollywood glamor hit the red carpet in 2023 and dare I say, this is probably the best-looking awards show all season.

Sure, the Oscars is supposed to be standout. It is the most famous awards show in the world. But the looks don’t always live up to the hype. And yes, 2022 had its moments, but not from the heavyweights themselves. This time, almost every A-lister looked top-notch. I was worried this year wouldn’t be as good. My feeling is – the Oscars 2023 fashion was better.

YES! I LOOK FORWARD TO #GROWINGYOUNGER

Spoiler Alert: It was great that Brendan Fraser and Jamie Lee Curtis got their first Oscars. It was great that a song from India won Best Original Song. It was great that Michelle Yeoh was the first Asian woman to win Best Actress. And it was great to see midlife women dominate. But nothing beats the stellar color combinations like plum and pastel blue or green and silver.

There’s even a lack of names on the Worst Dressed list for me, and that’s saying something!

Monica Barbaro in Elie Saab Couture

Actress Monica Barbaro hit the red carpet because her movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was nominated for Best Picture. This dress is utterly divine, not only because of the way it drapes over her silhouette, but also because the color combination is like nothing I’ve ever seen. Who would have thought to put these two colors together? Only Elie Saab.

Angela Bassett in Moschino

It’s true that most of Angela Bassett‘s dresses have looked similar this season with their mermaid shape and draped out bottom, the only difference being in the color. Still, when it works, it works! This color is gorgeous, as all her colors have been, and might I just add, she’s allowed to be upset that she lost!

The hair is not great, but Sandra Oh‘s dress is Grecian goddess come to Earth – in yellow!

Halle Bailey in Dolce & Gabbana

Halle Bailey looks like a goddess of the sea, or dare I say, a little mermaid? Also, remember what she looked like at the Oscars in 2022? This is way better.

Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton

Cate Blanchett is a champion when it comes to promoting sustainable fashion. The Oscars were no different. She wears an archival Louis Vuitton gown with a silk teal capelet and statement shoulder pads as well as black skirt with a train.

Stephanie Hsu in Valentino

Not everyone can pull off watermelon sugar in a gown but Stephanie Hsu (and Valentino) have found the formula for a showstopper. I love this dress because she took a risk and it worked.

Cara Delevigne in Elie Saab

This red gown on Cara Delevigne is amazing on its own, but I also remember a very similar one by Marchesa worn to last year’s Oscars by Amy Forsyth.

This is an Interesting dress on Katie Lowes. The draping and the color is beautiful.

Not sure why Zoe Saldana chose this. It looks like a distressed wedding dress, but not terrible.

I didn’t see this dress in person, but I actually thought it looked better in pictures where she is at a distance. Vanessa Hudgens has a perfect hourglass shape here. But as you see her more close up, you notice that the dress doesn’t fit her as well as it probably should.

We get it Rihanna. You’re pregnant. Glad you’re proud. But for me, it’s a little bit overkill. The Super Bowl halftime show was a moment. Here, well, I think you can do better then leaving a spot where we can see through your clothes right around the midsection.

I get it, Florence Pugh wants to be “experimental.” The Oscars is not the place to do it, even if it is Valentino.

Yea, I get why she might want to wear something like this. That doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Do you have a favorite look (or more) from the Oscars 2023 red carpet?
