Look out Barbiecore pink, because the color green is now on the scene! One of our favorite color trends for Spring 2023 is bright kelly green. We call it Spring Green and Pantone coined it “Classic Green” on their list of Spring/Summer 2023 NYFW top 10 fashion colors. And it’s both a classic and ideal for spring. Let’s just call it Kellycore because you will be seeing a lot of this bright green fashion color trend in the months ahead.
What is Spring Green
According to Merriam Webster, spring green is a variable color averaging a moderate yellow-green that is greener, lighter, and stronger than average moss green, mosstone, average pea green, or spinach green. And Wikipedia tells us spring greens are the edible young leaves or new plant growth in the spring. We love that color!
What is Kelly Green?
Kelly green is actually an American term, derived from the last name Kelly, a common Irish last name reminiscent of the Irish green landscape. It was named Kelly green in 1917, when the influx of Irish immigrants came to America were celebrating the St. Patrick’s day parade. Everyone will be right on trend for the parade this year.

How to Wear the Kelly Green Fashion Trend
Now that we know more about this vibrant green color, what are the best ways to wear it for women over 50? And for the sake of this article, I will mostly call it Kelly green, since I want to fuel the Kellycore trend.
Top To Bottom Spring or Kelly Green
Don’t be shy! Wear a Kelly green skirt suit, pantsuit, tunic and pants, or a maxi or midi dress in bold spring green. The key here when it comes to styling is to go neutral with your shoes and accessories. Stick to black, navy, wine, bone, animal print, tan or nude shoes and bags. You see, I’m not boxing you in here because there are plenty of options. This is a basic fashion tip when it comes to wearing any bright color. But play around a little with your accessories. No one says you can’t try another pop of color such as a (Barbiecore) pink handbag or lavender shoes. Think of green like the leaves of a flower and you can spike it with another bit of color.

Kelly Green Separates: Tops and Bottoms
If you aren’t keen on wearing all green, you can split the difference and wear a green top or bottom. Try a Kelly or spring green jacket, blazer, blouse or sweater with your favorite denim jeans, pants or skirts. Grey, tan or black pants or suits work well with a green top, or try some darker rich hues like deep violet, burgundy, navy or pine green for a tonal look.
Or wear a colorful (or neutral) print blouse with a green blazer or cardigan sweater, or a geometric or floral pattern skirt with a Kelly green blouse. Neutral animal prints such as leopard and python work well with bright green.
Shop Green Tops
Another easy way to wear the green trend is on the bottom. Try a pair of wide leg or straight leg pants, or a pencil, pleated or asymmetrical (another spring trend) skirt in Kelly green and tone it down with a soft pastel or neutral colored top, tee, blouse or jacket.

Kellycore Accessories
Dip your toe into the trend with a pair of shoes (I couldn’t resist the pun), handbag, scarf, earrings, bracelet, sunglasses, necklace, phone case or other accessory for Spring 2023. This way, you don’t have to commit to the green color trend, and it adds a wonderful accent to anything you wear.
The bright green, spring green, Kelly green or PANTONE 16-6340 Classic Green (whatever you choose to call it) is a neutral in my book. Wear a green accessory with literally anything in your closet for a fun pop of color. And even though Kelly green is a spring/summer trend, there’s no reason to not wear the color all year round. Go hardcore Kellycore!
