I reviewed the collections from New York, London, Milan and Paris and put together this list of 9 of the best Fall 2024 fashion trends for women over 50. The collections are in stores, so we can now get excited about fall fashion!
Fall 2024 Fashion Trends For Women Over 50
What are the new trends for Fall 2024? As interesting and intriguing as some of them are are (including super puffy knits, mega sized furs, artful layering, slashed construction and super-wide shoulders), these are not the looks most women over 50 will actually wear. I have built this trend list for years and years now, and know what women over 50 will actually love to wear. We aren’t going to wear anything skin-tight, bare, sheer or over-the-top. Many of these “interesting and intriguing” trends I mentioned may actually make it to my worst fall trends list.
Fall 2024 also offers trends we have covered in recent past seasons including fringe, feathers, fitted suits and belts. I was happy to see a continuation of theses looks for fall and winter 2024. But what are the new fashion trends for fall 2024?

New Fall/Winter 2024 Fashion Trends
Some of the newest trends are ones that are revamped from those we have seen in the past. And actually, that is just fine for women over 50 because, for us, these trends are tried-and-true. We know what we like and are happy to wear them again. And we appreciate that fashion evolves and doesn’t always show up exactly as is did in the past, since it is always fun to wear something fresh and new.
9 Of The Best Fall 2024 Fashion Trends
Without further ado, here are 9 of the best Fall 2024 trends for women over 50. They include oversized checks, high necklines, coats with built-ins, ladylike vintage, black leather jackets, tuxedo looks, barrel pants, leopard prints and pointy low-heeled pumps.
Checks – Big Time!
Fall is traditionally a time for plaids and checks but for Fall 2024, they are big and bold! From an over-scale traditional plaid pair of pants at Dries Van Noten to an in-your-face tartan plaid graphic print maxi dress at Loewe to a cocoon shaped topper in bold black and white checks at Balmain, this is one print that can’t be missed.

High Necklines
Besides the return of roll necks and turtlenecks for Fall 2024, designers got creative with other versions of high neck collars. This look is a welcome resource for women over 50, because many of us prefer to cover our necks. Proenza Schouler modernized a white button down shirt with a filmy layer of sheer fabric, neck-high. Courrèges offered a chic weather-beating funnel neck trench coats that will keep us warm this season, and Carven showed a backwards collar to keep people guessing. They won’t know if you are coming or going.

Coats With Built-Ins
Just as we have seen built-in ties and wraps on tops and sweaters recently, the overcoats for fall 2024 are serving dual purposes. Designers have integrated scarves, wraps and shawls into their outerwear. From a built-in cape at Chloe, to a shawl at Casablanca, to a tie shoulder scarf at Sea, this season’s coats are one-and-done.

Ladylike Vintage Classics
Vintage lovers can rejoice this season! Designers showed ladylike looks reminiscent of the 50s and 60s in easy-to-wear silhouettes. Prada showed a multitude of very collectable midi skirt styles with sweaters and pointy-toe kitten heel pumps. A classic 60s 2-piece skirt and shell silhouette was featured at Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini and elbow length gathered gloves in powder blue completed a full skirted vintage vibe print dress at Chanel.

Little Black Leather Jackets
You may already own a blazer or moto-style jacket in black leather, but this season’s offerings will compel you to add another jacket to your wardrobe. The little black leather jackets for fall 2024 are simple, chic and just cool. From a minimalist cropped jacket at Christian Dior, to a high-shine double-breasted peacoat style at Saint Laurent to a classic bomber at The Row, a black leather jacket reigns supreme this season.

Tuxedo Looks
Evening dressing (or daytime dressing) never got so easy! Tuxedo looks were abundant on the runways for Fall-Winter 2024. Shiny lapels were everywhere on jackets and coats of all lengths, mostly in black, but also in other colors. Loewe topped off silky flowing trousers with a large metallic bugle-beaded lapel tuxedo jacket. Delcore showed a tuxedo pant suit in winter white, complete with modern tails, and Dolce & Gabbana presented a nipped waist midi-coat take on the classic black tuxedo.

Roll Out The Barrel (Pants)
By the name you may not want to go there, but we have found barrel shaped pants to be quite flattering, not to mention comfortable. From crisp off-white barrel pants with an easy asymmetric top at Bottega Veneta, to a trench-matching pair at Balmain, to a basic charcoal grey pair showcasing a cropped jacket at Emporio Armani, barrel pants are here to stay in 2024.

The Cats Are Back!
I’m glad that cats have nine lives, because it was refreshing to see leopard prints on the runway again. And they’re back in a big way, with larger prints and refined styling. Michael Kors showed a classic coat in a bold oversized print, Christian Dior added black piping and intricate details to a double-breasted leopard print jacket, and Alaïa went decorative with a supersized print cap sleeve top with added sparkle for evening.

Pointy-Toe (and Low) Pumps
I always like to include one accessory to the list and low-heel pointy toe pumps took over many of the runways. The pointy toe is a classic and works well with much of the fashion trends we adore for Fall 2024. And women over 50 love the low heels! From colorful sling-back kitten-heels at Carolina Herrera, to criss-cross strappy shoes at Prada to sleek cone-heeled red patent ones at Isabel Marant, these pointy-toe pumps will give your wardrobe an instant lift.
