Recently I found myself attracted to a candy corn shaped pillow. I’m not one for decorating my home for every season, especially not for fall, but I thought this one candy corn pillow would look rather chic on our all gray furniture. Its bright, whimsical vibe could either be seen as kitschy or a fun pop art piece. Then I asked myself why I want to display this candy corn motif in my home? The answer is simple. I love candy corn!
The Candy Corn Motif
Now I understand that candy corn is not for everyone, but I personally know a lot of candy corn lovers and there is quite a few more than, let’s say, Circus Peanuts lovers, but there is still backlash. I don’t even like the color combination of candy corn all that much, either. And does the shape really resemble corn? They actually look more like triangles with bands of orange, yellow and white that are reminiscent of colors I adored in the 70s. But are these colors cool? I think not. In fact, not at all. They are childish neon colors. However, I believe the simplicity of the candy corn motif can be quite chic, that is, when styled correctly.
Candy Corn Styling Guide
So here is my candy corn style guide for both your home and in fashion. (I’ll call it #CornCore.) Keep in mind there is a short season for candy corn, which begins at the end of August and ends the day after Thanksgiving. After that, displaying candy corn is a little like keeping holiday decorations up through March.

Candy Corn Styling Do’s and Don’ts
Do use the motif sparingly, keep it clean, look for well-made pieces in sturdy materials and avoid flimsy, shiny and chintzy fabrics. One candy corn pillow is all you need to accent a chair or sofa. The muted hues of this pillow are a bit more sophisticated.
Candy corn looks best on a neutral background, such as on this coir door mat, and can look rather harsh against black.
Choose candy corn prints carefully. This candy corn print throw works against a black background because it almost comes across as a leopard print.
Candy Corn Don’ts
Also avoid tacky screen prints, candy corn with faces that look like toys and items with confusing seasons and themes. What does candy corn have to do with pets, or with Christmas trees for that matter? I digress.

How to Wear Candy Corn
The same way I suggest using it in your home, when you wear the candy corn motif, keep it to a minimum. For example, wear one candy corn piece of jewelry to make a statement with an all black, grey or neutral ensemble. Or try a candy corn t-shirt under a casual blazer or leather jacket with jeans and booties as styled above.

I laughed while reading the article and really laughed about the candy corn tree.
I love to eat harvest corn (brown, orange and white).
The regular candy corn colors look great with black, so it is better for decorating and wearing (but not eating).
