I have to admit, I’m not usually a fan of plaid. Maybe it’s because they remind me of school uniforms—muted, understated, and meant to blend in. And while that’s the point for uniforms, fashion should be exciting and make a statement. I’m happy to report that this fall, plaid does just that! Designers are playing with oversized prints, bold checks, and unique angles, making these pieces anything but ordinary. These new takes on these classic fall prints makes them one of the freshest trends of the fall/winter season, and one that women over 50 will covert.
Plaids and Checks on The Runways
Here are a few of my favorite looks from the Fall 2024 runways. Dries Van Noten gave us oversized plaid with a twist—think barrel pants paired with an equally oversized blazer and sweater in unexpected, mismatched colors that somehow work. Over at Loewe, an eye-catching tartan plaid graphic print transformed a sleek maxi dress into a piece of modern art. And Loewe wasn’t done yet—bold black-and-white checks were brilliantly placed on a cocoon-shaped topper, creating a stunning mirrored effect.

How to Wear Bold Plaids and Checks for Fall 2024
