Can you believe we are already talking about fall trends? It’s no surprise by now, fall is my favorite season. It’s the perfect time to clean out your closet and invest in some new pieces. Diving into the trends for the fall and cold weather season are always exciting, because living in the Midwest, I know I’ll have plenty of time to try different looks and options. The fall season will stretch on for many months! We just highlighted some of the top fall fashion trends for women over 50, and I’d like to focus on one that has come and gone from the spotlight. Leopard prints have waxed and waned over the decades, but this season they are back. So let’s take a look at some ways to bring this fall 2024 fashion trend into your closet.
Leopard Prints For Women Over 50
Leopard Print Dresses
Even though a leopard print dress is a commitment, this is my favorite way to wear this fall trend. It’s a bold statement that shows you aren’t afraid to dive right into leopard prints. While looking for options to include in this write up, I found this A-line maxi dress from Target in a full leopard print. Let me say, I immediately fell in love with it and ordered one. It’s also a dress that you can wear for multiple seasons, depending on how you style it. I’d wear it now with some simple, leather thong sandals and wear it in the fall layered over a button front shirt or under a thick knit sweater.

I also really like this Steve Madden tie front shirt dress. I’ve really been loving this dress style, as it’s very forgiving and is flattering on many body types. This piece is easy to style for fall. Add tights and boots and a leather trench coat to complete the look.
Leopard Print Tops
I used to have a stellar selection of leopard print tops in various shapes and colors, but nothing that I had compares to this bow-front peplum top from Anthropolgie. It is so beautiful and feminine; and if you ask me, it’s the definition of an upscale way to wear a leopard print. All the details come together just right to make for a chic and flattering combination. I believe you can pair this top with almost anything. A pair of jeans to dress it down or your favorite skirt or wide leg pants to dress it up.
If you like something more basic, you can’t go wrong with this Topshop crinkle long sleeve top. It’s a classic shape with subtle details that won’t overwhelm you or your outfit. If you are unsure on the leopard print trend, this is a good piece to start with.
Leopard Print Bottoms
If you want to try a pair of pants, I suggest trying these Anthropologie wide-leg leopard print pants. The easy fit of these pants gives you a comfortable and stylish option for this trend. If you decide to try a pair like this, make sure you pay attention to proportions. Having something so free flowing on the bottom, means you want to keep your top options slim and close to the body.
For those of you that are much more daring in your fashion choices, try these leopard print barrel jeans from Amazon. I will say, I’m not totally on board with the barrel jean trend yet, but I really liked these and could think of a ton of ways to style them. I like the idea of pairing them with an army green ribbed tank for the summer or a slim sweater and metallic accessories for the fall. Thinking of fun ways to style these is definitely making me reconsider trying the barrel jeans trend.
Leopard Print Shoes
I recently got the memo that clogs are back. I remember wearing my clogs back in the late nineties early aughts, but here they are gracing the shelves of our favorite stores all over again! These leopard print Kate Spade Amelia clogs are for those of you that want to go for a bolder shoe choice. Not one to shy away from a bold shoe, I’ve added these to my cart to get back on the clog train for another go round.
I also love a simple shoe style in a great print, so if that’s more up your alley, you can get a pair of these Mary Jane flats from DSW in leopard print. Mary Jane’s are all the rage right now, so adding a pair in this trendy print to your collection will not be a regret.
Leopard Prints Styling Tips
- Don’t overdo it. Limit this trend to one piece per outfit. I wouldn’t recommend doing a top and a bottom in leopard print, unless it’s part of a two-piece set. If you do too much, it gets away from looking sophisticated and stylish and moves into clownish territory.
- Take a risk. One of the fashion rules that I like to practice is to pair prints with prints. Yes, it’s a bold move, but sometimes I’ll pair my leopard print shoes or accessories with a dress that is a completely different color and print. I like the look and I think it’s unexpected and fun. Play around with it.
- Keep a curated collection. This trend comes and goes but if you get a few classic pieces in a leopard print, they will last you through the years. A beautiful scarf, some classic shoes, a flattering dress, or a well-constructed sweater can all fit nicely into your wardrobe. Fall in-line with this trend and it will take you through season after season.
