If you don’t have any summer travel plans, it’s not too late to make them. Whether it’s a big excursion or a long weekend road trip, hitting the road for some R&R during the summer is always something to look forward to. Depending on your time and budget, there are so many places you can go. I personally love a beach vacation, but the possibilities are endless. It’s time to pack your summer travel fashion.
Summer Travel Fashion For Women Over 50
Regardless of your vacation of choice, one of the key factors in planning is what to pack for both your destination and travel days. I know I always get a little flustered when trying to figure out my day-of travel wear. I always want to look put together without compromising comfort. Making sure that I pack the right combination of outfits for my final destination can leave my head spinning. So, let’s take a look at some great options for summer travel that are perfect for anyone, especially the women over 50.
Summer Travel Dresses
There is a special kind of woman that wants to go above and beyond when dressing for travel. That woman that would never wear just leggings and a t-shirt when getting on a plane or embarking on a foot excursion while on vacation. For that woman, I found the ideal fit & flare midi dress. This linen blend dress is cool, loose, and comfortable. The sweetheart neckline brings some feminine detail and the A-line skirt with pockets offers a roomy and functional fit.

If you’re anything like me and would travel in your pajamas if socially acceptable, you may want to try this Departure Travel Shift Dress. It’s basically an oversized t-shirt, but in the best way possible. It has a side slit and patch pockets to give it some added details. The comfort and functionality of the piece can’t be matched. Another option that is similar is this mini shirt dress from Target. I recently picked up one for myself and have already decided to wear it on an upcoming road trip. I opted for the blue color and plan to wear it with a pair of plain white sneakers and my worn denim jacket.
Two Piece Sets For Travel
I’ve said it many times, but two-piece sets are my new jam. I pretty much live in them during the summer months and plan to utilize them regularly when I have any travel plans this summer. I found a couple of options that would work for anyone. The first is this two piece track suit which is ideal for long flight or car ride. I personally prefer to have my arms and legs covered when I fly. You never know what the temperature of the plane will be, so wearing lightweight separates is always my go to. This one I would get in multiple colors, so I’d always have one available to throw on.
Depending on your final destination, if you want something on the heavier side, you can get this oversized half zip track suit. I’d wear this one if I were traveling late night, have a longer layover or if my vacation spot has cooler temperatures.
If you want to go for a more elevated look, I found this linen two piece set from ASOS. The ivory color and pinstripes are a classic combination. Linen will always keep you cool in the warm weather months. This one is definitely one of my favorite two-piece sets that I’ve come across this year and makes a great daytime option for any vacation destination.
Accessories For Travel
I always make sure to bring my travel accessory staples: a cross body bag, a comfortable pair of sneakers and some jewelry that will pair well with any outfit I pack. I’ve found all three of those here for you, so you don’t have to put in any extra work. These crossbody bags from Amazon are surprisingly great quality and I love that they come in so many variations. I got one last year and it has become my primary bag for any time I leave the house, not just for travel.
I feel like I’m always on the go these days, so I make sure to have a pair of go-to sneakers that are superior quality, supportive and comfortable. I bought a pair of these New Balance sneakers a couple of years back. They have made it in my suitcase every time I take a trip whether I’m hopping in the car and driving a few hours to visit my family or on a plane to take a much needed week-long getaway.
Finally, as much as I love jewelry, I try to keep what I pack for trips to the bare minimum. The one jewelry piece that I feel I can’t go without is a pair of earrings. I recently purchased this set of three hoop earrings. They come in multiple diameters and assorted color combinations so you can buy what suits you. Also, these are so affordable, you don’t have to worry if you lose one on a trip. They are perfect for pulling together any of your chosen travel outfits.
Travel Style Tips
Be strategic about packing. I like to go one of two ways: packing separates you can mix and match or packing matching sets and dresses to give you a complete outfit. You can’t go wrong either way.
Keep it in the family. A little trick I learned about packing and shopping for a vacation is to keep most of your pieces in the same color family. This will help you curate a cohesive set of looks for your travel without having to bring too many pieces.
Save room in that suitcase! What’s a vacation without doing a little bit of shopping? You never know what finds you’ll come across when exploring a new locale. Save some room for those special finds while you’re away. It’s always a reward when you can take a piece of your travel back home with you!
