The spring 2023 runways featured tweed not only at Chanel but at Balmain, Isabel Marant, Dolce & Gabbanna, Versace, Gucci, Alice + Olivia and Veronica Beard among others. The Tweed Jackets and Pearls Trend
With the recent Met Gala honoring Karl Lagerfeld, many of the celebrities showed up in tweed and pearl embellished gowns, making the trend even more popular. Yet most of us mere mortals do not need a formal gown and are not attending a gala, so the best way to wear the trend is with a tweed jacket and pearls.
In my search for the best tweed jackets currently available, I noticed a great deal of them were part of a suit, often paired with a micro-mini skirt and or even shorts! This is a new way to wear a tweed suit when you are in your 20s or 30s. So how does this trend work for women over 50? I say we nix the tiny skirts and get only the jacket to wear with other pieces.

This is not your mother or grandmother’s tweed jacket and pearls pairing! Here are some of the best ways to wear the trend for spring/summer 2023.
Tweed Jackets and Pearls Trend Styling Tips for Women over 50
1. Wear a tweed jacket with jeans! And ideal way to take the “old lady” or stuffy look out of a tweed jacket is to wear it with a casual t-shirt or tank and denim jeans. Since jeans are now cut with a higher waist and wider legs, they work well with cropped jackets.
2. For a more professional look, wear a tweed jacket with pants or slim fitting midi skirts. Skirts and dresses can get tricky because the look may fall back into an 80s or granny look, so I would stick to pants.
3. Find a tweed jacket in a cut that’s right for you. They are available cropped or long, with and without lapels, double breasted, with trims and embellishments and in plaids or solids. There are a lot to choose from. Simply wear it in place of a denim jacket, moto-jacket or cardigan and you will have a whole new wardrobe.
4. Add some pearls. Give a nod (or a wink) to the Chanel look and add some pearls to your tweed jacket outfit. Statement peals are totally on trend this season, so they lend a more modern look. But you can also add a classic strand of pearls in the form of a necklace, earrings, or bracelet, or layer your pearl jewel with other metals.
