As the temps drop, I can’t help but get excited about breaking out my fall and winter outerwear! My coat collection is a mix of shapes, colors, and lengths,Even though I make sure to have my bases covered with the basics (classic trench, puffer, wool peacoat, etc.). But the ones that truly make my heart skip a beat? The extra special ones like faux fur, bold prints, and unique details that turn heads. They are the ones many of us save for special occasions, but I like to wear them on a daily basis. I personally like to call them statement coats, but whatever you choose to call them, you should make sure to have a few in your closet on those days when you want to feel on top of your fashion game.
Statement Coat Trends
Let’s take a look at some fun options you can try in some of the best new coat trends of the season.
Statement Bomber Jackets
Bomber jackets and coats are having a big moment right now. So, if this length is your go-to style, make sure to grab a couple of statement pieces to round out your outerwear collection. If you live in a warmer climate, you can try this floral embellished bomber jacket. The flower detail is fun, and the black color offers a subtle but edgy statement. This jacket also works well as a topper to pull together an outfit. I’d wear this to my office with some leather trousers or a pair of dark wash wide-leg jeans.

I also love a full-on faux fur moment, and if you do too, you can try something like this faux curly fur bomber jacket. Faux fur jackets are super warm and the long fur on this one is chic but also fun and playful. This jacket looks surprisingly high-end, but I would pair it with some relaxed fit jeans, a casual cable sweater and a pair of sneakers. I love the idea of dressing this one down. However, it can always be worn in a more dressed-up setting, like to a holiday party or on a date night.
Mid-Length Statement Coats
This is probably the most common length of coats from what I see here in Chicago. I personally prefer to have my backside covered with that extra layer when I’m venturing outside in the cold. So naturally, we need to explore some options in this common length.
Hear me out, I know this one may be a little much, but is it bad that I have a statement coat almost just like this multicolor Karl Lagerfeld Paris one? The bold colors might feel like a lot for some, but for the fashion lover who thrives on keeping things fun and fresh, these vibrant hues will ensure you stand out at any winter outing.
If you prefer something a little more subtle but still within this trend, try this gold textured coat. This would look beautiful worn to a holiday party or you can even dress up your outfit for a Sunday brunch.
Full Length Statement Coats
If you like the drama of a full-length coat, I’ve got you covered. And if you’re on board for wearing a full-length statement coat, my hat’s off to you! Personally, I love to do this. If I’m going statement, I’m going all in. I found this this quilted floral print coat that evokes mixed feelings. I can see how you’d either love it or hate it. However, I adore this one and think it can be used as an everyday fall coat. Put it on over anything and I know you’ll stay warm under its quilted fabric.
As previously mentioned, I love a faux fur moment, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t have at least one faux fur full-length coat. You can get your collection started with this light pink curly faux fur option. I have one like this in black and white houndstooth print which I was very partial to last winter. It turned into my staple coat for the season because it was incredibly warm and comfortable to wear. I highly recommend one!
Statement Coats: Expert Style Tips
- Own a variety of coats. I love having a wide variety of coats because they’re such a low-commitment way to experiment with style. Unlike an outfit you wear all day, a coat can come off if you’re feeling too hot, too cold, or just not quite comfortable. That’s the beauty of coats—they’re meant to be swapped out, so why not have fun with your collection?
- Find them in different price points. Most of the statement coats I’ve purchased over the years have come from many different retailers and are different price ranges. You don’t have to go out and buy the most expensive options every time. I’ve spent anywhere from $300 to $5 on some of my coats. Some of my favorites I bought at deep discounts at the end of the season. So, make sure to shop around.
- Ensure proper storage. I’m speaking from personal experience on this one, but when you start to build your collection of statement coats, you need to make sure you have the right place to store them at the end of the season. I’ve had the misfortune of not storing some of mine properly in the past and that resulted in damages or matted fur, dried out leather and weird smells when I bring them back out for the season. Take care of your coats. You’ve spent a lot of time and money on them, and you want to enjoy them for many years to come.
Do you own a statement coat that you are excited to wear when the weather gets cool? What is your favorite style?
