A new season isn’t complete without a denim refresh, and with fall officially here, it’s time to update those jeans. At Fountainof30, we’re spotlighting Fall 2024 trends, and let’s be honest—denim is a staple for just about everyone. So, we cannot forget to review the denim jeans trends. I know we’ve touched on denim here and there already for the fall, and it’s time to take a closer look at what this season has in store.
One of the remarkable things about denim jeans, is that there is always a size, fit and style that will work for you, regardless of your budget, lifestyle or personal preference. That also means there are plenty of options to style for women over 50. Let’s take a look!
Wide Leg Jeans
Wide-leg jeans have become a staple in my wardrobe, and it seems I’m not alone. As I’ve been shopping for fall looks, it’s clear that wide-leg denim is dominating the sales floors. I’m fully on board with this trend and have already invested in several pairs to rock this season. If you think this trend is for you, and you haven’t tried it yet, you can start with an entry-level price point pair like these wide leg jeans from Target. They come in two washes and are only $36.

For someone who is more committed to their love for wide-leg jeans, you can invest in a pair with some unexpected details like this super-wide leg pair by Veronica Beard at Neiman Marcus.
Or try this black color-block pair from Old Navy. I just purchased them, and I’m in love!
Cuffed Jeans
Cuffed jeans have been a close second fave for me when it comes to the newest denim jean trends for fall. I’ve found two pairs that I haven’t worn yet but can’t wait to rip the tags off! There are a couple of diverse ways you can wear this trend, and I love either. First, you can go for a cropped or ankle length pair, like these Scotty Straight-Leg jeans. These look great styled with a pair of loafers, Mary Janes, or ankle boots and a simple, crew neck sweater on top, to keep the focus on the wide cuff detail of the jeans. I like the idea of a buttery-soft cashmere or cashmere blend option.
The other way to go, is to go long like this option from Madewell. Length is key with cuffed jeans, so if you are going long, you want the back hem to hit the ground. You should also decide beforehand, if you are going to wear these with heels or flats, because that is going to dictate the inseam length. I like my jeans to cover my shoes when I wear heels, so I opt for long lengths. Depending on your height, that’s something you should consider when trying this trend.
Flare Jeans
I love that flare jeans have made a full comeback. I still have a couple pairs from about eight or ten years back that I’m glad I kept. However, if you didn’t keep any of yours and you want to get back on that bandwagon, here are a couple of easy options to jump back in.
I like a good old pair of dark wash, high-waisted flare jeans, which lead me to find this pair from Gap. They are a great pair to throw on and would work with anything you already have. I’ve been very into layering sweaters over button front shirts this year, which I think is an effortless way to style a pair of flare jeans.
Similar to the cuff jeans, you can also try a pair of flare jeans that are cropped or ankle length. The same principle applies with regards to styling; pairing these with a pair of loafers or ankle boots. I like the idea of styling them with a blazer on top for a collegiate vibe. I personally love jeans from Express because the quality is good, the price points are affordable and they are consistently true-to-size. That’s why I would suggest this pair of cropped, flare jeans if you want to incorporate this look into your rotation.
Denim Jeans Trends Expert Style Tips
- Choose your fall uniform. Feel free to mix and match all of these denim jean trends. They are equally amazing and there are many more that I didn’t cover here. However, If you find one style you love, don’t be afraid to stick with it and invest in several colors and lengths to create your own seasonal denim “uniform.”
- Be mindful of length. As I mentioned before, a lot of these jeans trends can work with many different shoe types, but you need to make sure the length of your jeans is tailored for the shoes you intend to wear. If you primarily wear heels, you may want to consider selecting tall length jeans for the added inches in the inseam. If you are shorter, then consider having your jeans professionally hemmed to hit at just the right point when you wear your sneakers or flats. The wrong jean length can really throw off the look and feel of your outfit.
- Jeans are a universal trend. Don’t get too hung up on what style is the trendiest or trying to fit a trend into your life that doesn’t work for you. Regardless of the cut, color or size, jeans will be a mainstay in our closets for decades and you love the ones you love. So, wear what fits you best and makes you feel good!
