A Thanksgiving Holiday Outfit for Women Over 50: Style It High or Low

The holidays will soon be here, kicking off with Thanksgiving. This year I put together a Thanksgiving holiday party outfit that can be worn on Thanksgiving (one holiday), but it will also work for any other holiday parties you may have on your calendar this season. Wear it again to cocktail parties, office events, dinner with friends, or you  may even wear this on Christmas or New Year’s Eve.

Thanksgiving Holiday Outfit High and Low

Since I gave you so many ideas on opportunities to wear this look, you will definitely be able to reduce your cost-per-wear. That’s why you may decide to splurge on the high-end version of this look (on the left). Or you can save more if you go for the low-priced outfit on the right. And there is one more option! You can pick and choose pieces from both the high and low sides and create a high-low look.

Easy Outfit for Women Over 50

This easy-to-wear outfit is based on a pair of black velvet flare pants, a paisley print blouse, a gold handbag and black kitten heel booties. It is sort of dressy, yet casual too, so it is perfect for those occasions when you don’t know what to wear because it can go either way. Additionally this look is chic, sophisticated and comfortable, making it perfect for women over 50.

Black Velvet Pants

It may seem simple, but a pair of black velvet jeans or pants is what makes this outfit ideal for holiday parties. Starting with Thanksgiving, velvet pants with a bit of stretch give you a flattering fit and have that extra bit of give so you feel comfortable when you are enjoying the extra food you eat at holiday parties. These Frame Le High Flare Cotton-Blend Velvet Pants have extra stretch in the fabric (2% spandex) and are well worth the investment of $300. If you already own a pair of Frame jeans, you know what I mean. The fit and timeless styling will keep them on rotation in your closet for years. However, you may prefer to spend your money on gifts right now, so you can pick up these Old Navy High-Waisted Velvet Flare Pants for only $34.99! These pants are a pull-on style with 5% spandex, so they are even more comfortable, but less stylish!

A Shiny Paisley Blouse

Any print or even a solid shiny blouse will work. I adore paisley prints because they can look like florals, only with a bit of an edge! This amazing and dramatic Zimmermann Billow Pussy-Bow Printed Crepe de Chine Blouse is $650. You will wear this gorgeous piece all year long. Or you can get a lot more bang for your buck (without the drool-worthy drama) with this Sanctuary Print Metallic Blouse for only

Gold Detail Black Belt

One thing that instantly adds polish and pulls together an outfit is a belt. Shiny black croc-embossed leather adds a rich and textural contrast with velvet. The gold metal logo detail on this Tom Ford Double T Croc Embossed Calfskin Leather Belt for $990 is beyond chic. Designer belt collectors (Lauren) take note! But you can find plenty of less expensive belts that look similar (at a great distance) like this Nordstrom Aubrey Lizard Embossed Belt for only $49

Black Kitten Heel Booties

If you don’t already own a pair of black kitten heel booties, I suggest you pick up a pair! A classic pointy 2 inch heel bootie in black like these Gianvito Rossi Vitello Glove 55 Leather Ankle Boots for $1,295 are absolute perfection. You will wear them with this outfit as well as everything from faded jeans to skirts, dresses and even some gowns. But you can also get a pair of these LifeStride Sienna Pointed Toe Booties for a fraction of the cost at $94.99.

Gleaming Gold Metallic Handbag

Go for the gold! You can make a statement and add instant glam to your look with a super shiny gold metallic bag. Metalliics are always in style, but also on trend (in a big way) for spring 2024. This Bottega Veneta Mini Cassette Metallic Intrecciato Leather Shoulder Bag for $2,100 is one to cherish for years to come. But you can get similar gleaming gold shine with this AllSaints Yua Metallic Leather Clutch for

Versatile Holiday Outfit Styling Tips

  • Style and Comfort. You can have both! Find pieces with stretch in the fabric (like our velvet pants) so you will be able to eat that extra piece of pie.
  • Lush Fabrics. Velvet pants, a shiny blouse, and a metallic handbag add an element of festivity to your outfit.
  • Not Just For Holidays Colors. Neutral colors like gold, silver or winter white, or dark colors such as burgundy, violet, or pine green will work from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day. Bright red may scream Christmas and you may not wear it as much (unless red is your jam).
  • Versatility. Choose pieces you know you can wear again. Will you wear a dress as much as a pair of velvet jeans? Probably not, especially when it gets cold outside! Before making a purchase for a holiday outfit, think about if you will wear it again after the parties are over.
