How to Create a Multi-Holiday Decor Plan That’s Chic, Easy and Affordable

Yes, the holidays are practically here! With Thanksgiving falling later in the month this year and retailers already rolling out Black Friday sales weeks in advance, it’s hard not to notice the seasonal push. While I’m trying to avoid the holiday stress, I’m realizing it might not be such a bad idea to start decorating my home for the season a little earlier than usual. Normally, I wait until after Thanksgiving to dive into holiday decor, but this year, I’ve come up with a solution that works. I’m creating a multi-holiday home decor plan.

I’m treating my holiday home decor like a fashion outfit. I’m starting with a few winter-inspired pieces that I can easily mix and match to create different looks for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It’s kind of like swapping out a handbag to change the mood of the same outfit.

A Multi-Holiday Home Decor Plan

For my holiday home, I like to stick with inexpensive decor in neutral tones like winter white and metallics—think gold, silver, and copper—along with touches of greenery. These pieces are my “base” decor, providing a clean, versatile foundation.

From there, I add in subtle holiday motifs that don’t scream “Christmas” right away. Think trees, garlands, pinecones, globe ornaments, and reindeer! I tend to save more overtly Christmas-themed decorations, like Santas, elves, snowmen, candy canes, and even snowflakes for after Thanksgiving.

For example, I’ve chosen a creamy white throw, a set of delicate trees, a pinecone garland to drape over my mantel or incorporate into a tablescape, and a mercury glass vase as the core of my decor. To switch things up for the different holidays, I’ll swap out the colors of ornaments in the vase or on the garland, and change out throw pillow covers. The best part? Most of these items come from Amazon, so they’re affordable and available in a variety of colors and styles—making it easy to refresh my holiday look without breaking the bank.

Thanksgiving Holiday Home Decor

Start your holiday decorating early with creamy white and metallic neutrals. To warm up your home for Thanksgiving, fill a large pedestal vase with rich brown ornaments and cover your throw pillows with amber-colored velvet.

Keep the same neutral holiday decor from Thanksgiving. Then simply switch out the brown ornaments for red ones, and use Christmas-themed throw pillow covers.

New Year’s Eve Holiday Decor

Sure, you can keep the same decor from Christmas for New Year’s Eve. But why not refresh your holiday look one more time? You can replace the red ornaments from Christmas with champagne colored ones, and cover your throw pillows with glitzy gold and black metallic.

You see, it is not too early to start decorating for the holidays. It is chic, easy and stress-free!
