Tuxedo looks were abundant, and shiny lapels showed up on jackets, dresses and coats of all lengths, mostly in black, but also in other colors. What Is A Tuxedo?

So what exactly is a tuxedo? A tuxedo is a formal men’s suit that is typically worn to special occasions and black tie events. They are characterized by their satin details, including satin lapels, satin buttons and satin stripes down the sides of the trousers. Tuxedos are traditionally paired with a white dress shirt and black patent leather shoes.

History Of The Tuxedo

The satin lapel suit was Introduced in the 1860s by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII). In the late 1800s it gained popularity in the United States, and was named after Tuxedo Park, a New York country club where it was first worn. In 1930, Marlene Dietrich was one of the first women to wear a tuxedo in the film Morocco, and in In 1966, Yves Saint Laurent designed Le Smoking, the first tuxedo suit for women. Women have taken over many menswear looks, and the tuxedo is no exception.
