When I took a look at the Pantone Top 10 NYFW Fashion Color Trends For Fall 2024 / Winter 2025 I was thrilled to see “Italian Plum” on their list. This gorgeous deep violet is one color I have always adored because it is a wonderful alternative to black.
Not only is it more flattering than black, thanks to its warmer tone, but it’s just as versatile. You can easily pair this color with any other shade or print. If you’re choosing one trending fashion color for fall and winter, Pantone’s Italian Plum is a perfect pick!

Italian Plum at Carolina Herrera
Pantone stated “Italian Plum is a deep dark purple full of magical energies”. This rich shade was shown at Carolina Herrera. (Note how pastel pink pumps accent the color).

How to Style Italian Plum
As I mentioned earlier, this color can easily replace black in your wardrobe. If you’re someone who loves an all-black wardrobe, why not mix things up this fall with a little plum dress instead of your classic LBD? You’ll feel just as comfortable, but with a fresh twist. You can still pair it with your black accessories, or try metallics like gold, silver, or copper to add a striking contrast to your look.
Italian Plum Instead of Black
Here’s a little plum dress outfit with gold metallic accessories.
A Mix of Colors with Italian Plum
Wear a plum suit with a print blouse (even if it doesn’t include plum) and add a mix of colors with your accessories. This blue bag doesn’t “match” anything in this outfit, yet it still works.

And you can always swap put your black, brown or neutral handbag or shoes for this rich shade of purple plum.
