Paris, the city of lights…and fashion. And currently the site of the 2024 Summer Olympics. But this isn’t going to be a post about sporty fashion or the athletes that are currently capturing global attention. Instead, it’s about another element worthy of worldwide admiration. It’s about the sartorial elegance of Parisian women. Let’s take a look at how 6 of our favorite style celebrities wear Parisian fashion.
Celebrities In Parisian Fashion
The French aesthetic is renowned for its reliance on wardrobe classics or those never-dated pieces simplify the art of getting dressed. But amidst those timeless staples, there are some recent trends taking to the streets and the runways (as best exemplified during recent events like Vogue World: Paris and Couture Week). Here are some of those worthwhile style choices, and the celebrities that wear them.
The Trench
The trench coat has long been a cornerstone of the French wardrobe, more so in the winter and when the weather is damp (remember when the leather trench was all the rage?)

Today, the trenches are spilling over from winter and they sometimes include belted coats with straight leg jeans or pops of red (another trend we’ll get to later on).
Nicole Kidman always looks good in a trench, whether she’s wearing it in a Variety photoshoot or wearing it stylishly to catch a plane at LAX. For a more Parisian affect, style it with a white tee, sneakers, or plain white tennis shoes.
Polka Dots
Apparently, polka dots are back. Did they ever actually leave? We saw Demi Moore wearing them beautifully in an Elie Saab look at the Cannes Film Festival back in May (and I’ve highlighted this more than once.)
Polka dots are romantic and whimsical. But if you don’t want to call attention to yourself and focus on the elegance, pair them as an accessory such as a scarf or blouse with striped trousers a la Phoebe Waller-Bridge at a movie premiere earlier this year.
Ballet Flats
Along with the slim sneakers and the barely-there makeup, the ballet flat is a minimalist shoe that is also the epitome of casual French style and elegance. You will rarely see a Parisian girl in heels, unless it’s for a night out. Whether it’s the iconic Repetto shoe once worn by Brigitte Bardot or an embellished stunner with a bow (yes, still considered minimalist), the ballet flat is a quintessential choice for Parisian girls.
Katie Holmes may be a New York girl at heart, but she dresses like a Parisian, often pairing neutral tones and easy basics with a ballet flat. In this case, it’s in the perfect shade of powder blue.
Monochrome Fit
Matchy-matchy at its finest? Once a staple of Parisian fashion, the monochrome look is back and better than ever on the streets of Paris. That said, it has also come back to the fashion shows and the red carpet, according to WWD.
Emma Stone‘s navy Givenchy outfit is the perfect Parisian-inspired look for a night out on the town. The actress layers a slightly oversize blazer with a skinny belt over a black lace midi dress that looks perfectly put together. I’ll be trying this at home.
Pops of Red
The minimalists of Parisian fashion might say a pop of red is a bit much, but that’s why it’s just a pop and nothing more. And it’s all about styling this bold choice the right way. The key is to integrate it with neutral pieces. Try a red shirt with a beige trench coat, or a red bag to throw in more color.
The light and airy shade of Victoria Beckham‘s dress is beautifully grounded by the pop of red on her shoes, steering the outfit into a more spirited direction. It’s a perfect example of embracing the joy of spring while maintaining that elegant French flair.
Shirtdress
A shirtdress is effortless and versatile, and that’s what makes it quintessential to French fashion. It’s flattering, comfortable, and can be worn day or night with flats or a dressier heel and you’ll always look put together.
So why is it coming back in style? It’s easy for summer and combines the best of both worlds: timeless elegance and modern practically. It’s a wardrobe staple and a classic silhouette, which makes it perfect for fashionistas and French girls alike.
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow takes the easy elegance that Parisian fashionistas are known for to the next level with this striped shirtdress, while preparing a drink. The sleeves are rolled up, the dress accentuates her waist and the look is timeless.
