Spring is here and now that the collections are in the stores, trend-lovers beware! I understand fashion collections, photos and presentations are geared for drama and to get our attention. However, many of the spring 2021 fashion trends stood out for the wrong reasons! They grabbed our attention because they are unwearable, show too much skin, or in some cases, are simply ridiculous. These 9 stood out to me as the worst spring 2021 fashion trends women over 40 should (and will) avoid. Take a look and have a chuckle!
The Worst Spring 2021 Fashion Trends
1. Sloppy Sweats
Comfort is one thing but merely taking Rocky’s classic grey sweat suit and embroidering some letters on the front is not a good look. I call these sloppy sweats. We love the chic and fancy fleece of spring 2021, but these sloppy sweats have got to go.
2. I See London Sheer
Sheer layer and sheer skirts are not a good look for women of all ages! Sheer layers may work over beachwear but I can’t imagine anyone wearing a sheer pleated skirt out and about. Or let me rephrase: I can’t image anyone wearing underpants with a sheer layer over them out on the street!

3. Bra Top with a Jacket
(A.k.a. I forgot my blouse!) I actually like this look and some young women with flat abs and smaller busts can make it work. But where would you practically wear a pantsuit with a bra top? I mean, how many cocktail parties have you been having on your yacht lately? Some women over 40 can get away with this look, but most will look like they forgot to put on their top!
4. Baby Doll Dresses
I noticed a lot of little flirty girly dresses on the runway for spring 2021. Designers showed short, ruffly, puffy sleeved, baby doll dresses. I am not sure women in their 20s would like to wear these dresses much less women over 40. Just picture your head sticking out of one of these little numbers! Be careful, Target is now stocking this look.
5. Midriff Madness
Most women over 40 do not want to show off their mid-sections, even if they do have tight abs. When you sit down your belly creeps out! We’ve been down this road before and just need to avoid it. Except for the beach, just say “no” to the midriff for spring 2021.
6. Cutouts Craze
Maybe designers were a little bored in lockdown and got carried away with the scissors! Spring 2021 showed many a cutout in many of the worst places. Give me a cutout for my hip, my thigh, my stomach and don’t forget the knee! No thanks. But we can be grateful to the designers for saving us money, since we will be skipping this trend!
7. Your G-String Is Showing
OK, everyone hates bra straps hanging out so why would we want to show off g-string straps? And draw attention to our hips? I need not say more.
8. Shoulder Length Earrings
I’m sure there are some women who can pull this dramatic look off, but I think most of us can only imagine these earrings laying around in a jewelry box. Also imagine the damage they can do to your earlobes!
9. Supersized Shoulders
Padded shoulders can give you a nipped waist and a strong and powerful silhouette, but some at the spring 2021 shows were supersized shoulders on steroids. And possibly dangerous. If you make the wrong move you can “poke an eye out” wearing one of these jackets. They need to come with warning labels!
Which of these Spring 2021 trends do you think you will avoid?

I have to admit that I really don’t get the frontier woman dresses being back in style. I think they’re horrific.
As do I! They looked bad on me back in the 80’s when Laura Ashley was all the rage. Now I know better. Yikes.
Remember Gunne Sax dresses? Yikes- Little House on the Prairie, circa 1980 lol
Yes and Laura Ashley too! So 80’s! We sure loved them back then though.
Yuck Yuck Yuck….no way Jose!
Right? But they are fun to well, laugh at.
Well, there’s no danger of me being seen wearing any of these styles!
LOL. Me too!
Oh so good. So true. OMG some ofthese.
I think the baby doll dresses are amazing. Why you don’t like it
They don’t like great on most women over 40. But there are exceptions to every rule.
It’s a no for me.
