You wouldn’t know it from all the couture–like coats and exaggerated shoulders that came down the runway during Fashion Week Fall/Winter ’23 in February, but winter is just about over. Thanks to strange spring weather, it’s been a little hotter than we would have liked on the East Coast (and a little colder in California), but these ups and downs in temperature make it perfect for transitional trends for spring.
Those trends include the thin blazers and fancy hoodies that help bring us into the spring and summer. I’m not sure where sequins and the cutouts fall into the mix, but hey, the colors are bright and popping and the skin is showing – though not in an obvious way. And of course there’s the casual looks and the ones that are perfect for a night on the town. Let’s see which celebs made these new trends for spring work.

1. Fancy Hoodies – Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway‘s fashion choices are often the talk of the town, and her latest appearance at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival was no exception. She wore a hooded Alaïa bodysuit and draped leather skirt, showcasing the newest trend of fancy hoodies that was also seen on the runways of New York Fashion Week Fall 2023.
Hathaway has become a trendsetter in the fashion world and continues to surprise with her standout looks. I love the draped leather skirt. It seems we can expect more fashion moments from her in the future, and fans are eagerly waiting to see what she will wear next.
Meanwhile, fancy hoodies were seen on the runways of Proenza Schouler (my personal fave designer duo) and Carolina Herrera and draped over the likes of Jennifer Garner and Emily Ratajkowski.
2. Azzedine Alaïa – Lupita Nyong’o
I couldn’t let this post go without doing a paragraph on the body-hugging artwork of fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa, being that a few celebs seems to be wearing the Tunisian couturier right now! Besides Anne Hathaway, of course, Alaïa was also seen recently on Lupita Nyong’o who wore an Alaia Twisted Table dress from the Spring 2023 collection at the opening night of the Broadway play Fat Ham in New York City.
The dress showcased the brand’s genius in being able to flatter the female form, with a focus on stripes and pleats and illusion. Alaïa may have been known for structural designs in the past, but we love the brand’s latest approach to accentuating every curve. The dress, and the brand’s newest aesthetic is a true testament to Alaïa’s ability to create mind-altering (and influencing) designs in the fashion world.
3. Side Cutouts – Jodie Turner-Smith
Although I’m going to focus this post on the beauty that is Jodie Turner-Smith in side cutouts on a dress by Christopher John Rogers, I’d first like to pay a little homage to the other celebs who have been rocking the side cutout look.
This weekend Lori Harvey, stood out at Coachella in her ivory cutout jersey dress with what PopSugar determined was hip cleavage! There’s also Dove Cameron, who wore a Galvan Luna dress from Resort 2023, embroidered with reflective bugle beads and unique side cutouts. She made the “dress” her own, however, by cropping it to her thighs and pairing it with flared trousers. Dove Cameron always knows how to put her own twist on fashion trends and make them work for her.
Last but not least, Jodie Turner-Smith in a dress by Christopher John Rogers, which demonstrates how side cutouts can add an element of intrigue to an outfit by strategically revealing just a little bit of skin. It’s sexy and edge, and playful and I love it!
4. Oversized Blazers – Transitional Trend for Spring – Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen has been spotted sporting the oversized blazer trend during her recent European vacation with husband John Legend and their three children. The practicality of unfussy dressing without sacrificing style is important for Teigen, especially with three kids in tow. The oversized blazer is the perfect solution for vacation wardrobe – or a dinner party. Chrissy rocked at least four different versions throughout her trip, according to her Instagram.
The oversized blazer trend brings a comfortable yet sophisticated look to any outfit. It can be dressed up or down, making it a versatile piece that can be worn for any occasion. The oversized fit adds an element of effortless cool to any outfit and can easily elevate a basic outfit to a fashion-forward one. It’s a versatile piece that can easily add an element of sophistication to any outfit.
5. Sequins – Viola Davis
Sequins took over the Oscars, the Grammys, and pretty much any event that requires statement style. Viola Davis made a bold statement on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards in February by wearing a multicolored sequin gown by designer Naeem Khan. The stunning gown featured modern, abstract square shapes in shades of silver, blue, black and red, adorned with show-stopping sequins and fringed detailing.
The 57-year-old actress looked absolutely stunning in her custom, embellished look. She beamed with joy while holding her Grammy Award for best audio book for her autobiography, Finding Me. Viola’s win of the award made her an EGOT (someone who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award.) And she’s got great style to boot.
