Summer is finally here and if you are like me, you want to be prepared for any occasion that may arise. I am usually not a very spontaneous person. However, in the summertime, if I have several outfits already put together, I can be ready for anything. I can say, “Yes, I will meet you for lunch.” “I can go to see your son play baseball.” “Yes I’ll go to the street fair.” “OK, let’s go to the music festival!” and “I’d love to have cocktails on your patio.” So often we are not inclined to do things because we don’t feel prepared. That’s why I put together these 3 summer outfit ideas for women over 50.

These 3 basic summer outfit ideas are sort of like uniforms. You can wear them on repeat for different occasions, or you can interchange the pieces with variations of the same theme. For example, wear a different blouse or pair of sandals with the same pair of jeans.

If you want to make your summer wardrobe styling really simple and easy, you can wear the same handbag or shoes with all 3 outfits. These outfit ideas will help for when you travel as well.

Putting a few different outfits together for each season always helps me out. For summer I think about the occasions I will need the outfits, as well as the time of day and the temperature. In most cases, even on hot summer days, I always include a jacket or a long sleeve layer. Finding a jacket or wrap at the last minute can be one of the most stressful things about getting dressed, so it’s best to have that thought out as well. Most of my summer events and parties are very casual, but I still like to look put-together.

Summer Jeans Outfit Idea

I live in jeans, and in the summer a light faded cropped pair with a little bit of stretch are the way to go. Wear them with a short, puff or flutter sleeve button-front white shirt, slip on some easy to walk in slide wedge sandals and a small cross-body bag. A linen or cotton blazer in black adds sophistication to the look if the summer day or evening is chilly. This outfit is your answer for what to wear to an outdoor concert, a street fair, a flea market, or a summer day trip.

Outdoor Summer Party Outfit Idea

A button front shirt in a fun pattern over a tank top with white pants can become your go-to outdoor summer party outfit. Wider leg or cropped white pants or jeans will keep you cool and covered. If the sun is shining you can slip off the shirt and the black tank will look chic with the with the white pants. Comfortable flat slides and a mini black cross-body complete this look. A midi or maxi sundress in a lightweight cotton is an excellent summer outfit option for women over 50. It’s easy, breezy, one-and-done! A dress with flutter sleeves or ruffles will flatter less-than-perfect arms and you can still wear a bra. A summer dress is ideal If you are wondering what to wear to an outdoor evening party. To dress it up wear gold metallic slide sandals and carry a gold metallic mini bag. Bring a colorful print ruana or kimono because it may come in handy if the weather gets cooler in the evening.
