Most of us are familiar with the designer collaborations available at Target and Kohl’s, but did you know you can find fashion and style at Walmart? It’s true! I did a little investigative online shopping to see what I could find for spring and summer. You can really save a lot of money, too. Here are my selections and how to shop Walmart designer fashion when you’re over 40.
How To Shop Walmart Designer Fashion
Last year Scoop launched a collection at Walmart and it was pretty exciting to get cute boutique style apparel at low prices. So this was the first collection I had to check out at Walmart for spring. You can find paisley printed blouses, Missoni-inspired cardigans, cute denim jumpsuits, boho chic dresses, jackets and jeans.
Shopping Scoop at Walmart is really fun because it is (somewhat) like shopping at Intermix! Only you can lob off a zero at the end of the price and get a much better deal. (Example: $290 at Intermix = $29 at Walmart.) Do be aware that you will also lob off a lot of the quality, but these pieces are trendy so you may not wear them very often. Make note of this formula: 1 item from Intermix = 10 pieces at Walmart! Have I convinced you to shop Walmart yet?
My favorites from Scoop for women over 40 include bright paisley prints like this printed midi dress with side slits. This open front cardigan sweater is lightweight and ideal for spring and summer. Besides, you can pretend it’s Missoni! I like how they styled it with a basic white tee and cropped jeans, also from Scoop. And to really feel like you are boutique shopping, pick up this easy-to-wear jumpsuit in a neutral python print for $39
Next on the list of “out-of-business-boutiques-now-at-Walmart” is C. Wonder. I did not know C. Wonder landed here! If you don’t remember, C.Wonder was a boutique of logo-clad and preppy monogrammed fashion founded by J. Christopher Burch. Yes, that is Tory Burch’s ex-husband, and thus the Tory-Burch-looking collection. The pieces are perfect for work and play and you can keep them around for several years since they are classic.
This logo button front shirt dress is flattering for most figures and you can always dress it down with a pair of sneakers. I’m not much for preppy styling, but I do like this classic (and Toryesque) spilt neck tunic top in white. You can wear this over cropped or skinny jeans, print pants or as a swim suit cover up. We may not be able to go to a beach this summer, but you can always wear it over your swim suit in your back yard.
EV1 from Ellen DeGeneres
Next I noticed the EV1 from Ellen DeGeneres collection. My first impression was there were not many pieces that reminded me of Ellen. (I was looking for menswear style jackets, chinos and sneakers, right?) Well, I did see cool some casual pants and there were some sneakers I can picture on Ellen. However one of my favorites is this floral ikat print shirt. It has a summery-vintage feel and it will look fabulous with white or blue washed denim jeans. Another of my favorites from EV1 is this pair of dressed-up joggers in Seaspray green.
Shopping Tip: This pair of jogger pants brings to mind a tip I have when it comes to shopping for low price fashion. Check out all the colors and prints. Some colors will look amazing and some variations can be absolutely horrible. For example, I love these pants in Seaspray green but not at all in the blue. Ick!
My color theory becomes more than apparent when you shop the Jordache Vintage line! I admit, it was a bit more tedious to shop this collection that is geared more for Juniors, but I did find some fabulous pieces for women over 40. (I always say when it comes to shopping for fashion, where there is a will there’s a way!)
If you don’t have a pair like this, these Jordache Vintage Farrah jeans will be very useful this summer! They are cropped, lightweight and perhaps loose enough to wear comfortably over your “COVID 15”. This black pencil jean skirt is a classic that you may have owned and loved in the past because it was so flattering. (It is beginning to bother me that they are calling these pieces vintage.) I also recommend Jordache Vintage jean jackets for spring and summer. You can go trendy and pick up this Betty Crop Jacket in tie dye for only $32.98! I would avoid the Rinse Logo colorway!
Sofia Vergara Jeans
Did you know Sofia Vergara has a collection at Walmart? It’s called Sofia Vergara Jeans, and it does have a wide variety of jeans in many sizes including plus sizes. However, my favorites from this collection are her summery print midi dresses and easy the fitting bandana print palazzo pant. My least favorite from her collection is the multitude of off-the-shoulder tops. I find them too difficult to wear for most women over 40.
Best Walmart Accessories
Finally, Walmart has very fun summer accessories under their brand called Time and Tru. A colorful circle shape straw bag or coated canvas tote in a cool print is the way to go when shopping at Walmart. The price is right, even if you carry it for only one season!
This embroidered floppy sun hat can put everyone in their place this summer while you sit on your balcony or in your back yard.
The Sofia Vergara® x Foster Grant® collection at Walmart has some fabulous sunglass styles. I adore these oversized tortoise frames (they remind me of Saint Laurent Cat Eye Sunglasses) and they come in a variety of colors (in this case all are good!) There are a lot of other sunglasses styles as well and all are around $30.
Would I buy shoes from Walmart? I have a difficult time (actually my feet have a difficult time) with shoes that are inexpensive. But I did find this kitschy-cool pair that are a hoot! These amusing and sparkly Walmart pool slides make it loud and clear just exactly where you got them. But no one would know how little you payed!
When I shop looks for less, I always like to tally up my shopping spree. If you buy all of 17 of my picks you will spend $442.34. That’s a lot of bang for your buck!
