Romantic Floral Print Dresses, Tops and Sets to Wear Now and Later

Even though we are still in the dead of winter and are not out of the woods yet when it comes to cold weather, it’s still nice to think about springtime. Feminine prints and patterns tend to pop up in the spring and the first print that comes to mind is florals. Though florals can be synonymous with springtime, they don’t have to be exclusively reserved for when the weather starts to warm. Floral print dresses, tops and sets can be worn now and worn later, especially the myriad of romantic, rich florals that I’ve been seeing in the stores. Let’s go on a shopping trip to explore florals that women over 50 can wear right now and well into the spring and beyond.

Romantic Floral Print Dresses And Sets

I know many of you may think that a floral dress in the wintertime can be absolutely wrong for the season, and for some options available, you’re right. However, something like this floral print long sleeve dress is beautiful for this time of year. This would pair beautifully with a chunky knit sweater, tights, and a pair of tall leather boots or even a pair of super trendy loafers. I actually think you can also wear this to a winter wedding, if you go upscale with your accessories and outerwear choices.

Lately, I’ve found myself loving matching sets, so of course I had to find one in a floral print. How about this red floral print top and matching pants set from Mango? I know this one may not be for everyone to wear as a full set, but the slim silhouette and modern print offer so much from a style prospective. And if you don’t want to wear it as a full set, buying them as separates can work brilliantly as well. The top can pair well on it’s own or under a blazer and the pants will work proportionately with an oversized crew or V-neck sweater.

Romantic Floral Tops

Tops with bold or romantic prints are a nice refresher this time of year. It’s typical for many of us to gravitate toward dark colors just because wintertime can be drab. But adding a chic floral print to your outfit can instantly take you out of that mindset. If you want to stick with dark colors, you can try this Volume Sleeve Blouse from Banana Republic. Keep it winter appropriate by pairing it with a pair of black wool pants or a full-length pleated skirt. You can also take this into the springtime by adding a midi length skirt in a bold primary color, like cobalt blue or red.

For those who want to steer clear of black, I would suggest this pink floral print top with an open back. The open back shows a little bit of skin for when the weather is warmer, but for now you can add a faux leather tan blazer and pants combo with a neutral pump or ankle boot to give you a cohesive and well-thought-out look.

Floral Outerwear And Accessories

The thought of buying a new coat or jacket in February may be unnerving, as we are all thinking about getting past the winter and out of our heavy coats, right? However, I found this floral print travel jacket which looks like the perfect piece for a late winter/early spring transition. It is also packable, which makes it a great option if you are planning on getting out of town for vacation to beat the winter blues.

Finally, this shopping trip wouldn’t be complete without talking shoes. There are many options out there for shoes with some romantic or bold floral prints, but I found these ankle boots from Sam Edelman that stole the show for me. The rich marigold color and damask print and texture are both very regal to me. These are substantial enough to wear now and  into the spring and pair them with some of your favorite jeans and a whimsical tee.

Floral Print Fashion Style Tips

  1. Floral can be flattering on anyone. You just need to know the rule of proportions. Smaller framed ladies may be better off with smaller prints or patterns. That way they are not overwhelmed by the floral. Whereas for larger-framed women, larger prints are the way to go. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. Do what makes you feel good.
  2. Steer clear of mixing and matching. I think mixing and matching floral prints can be a bit overkill. Leave it to one piece and style around that. Bold accessories and bright colors are your friend when it comes to styling your floral pieces, but I’d keep the other patterns and prints to a minimal. But, let’s remember, there is always time to take a fashion risk.sometimes is pays off to be bold.
  3. Florals are a staple and a classic. Florals have always been and will always be in style. Yes the types and colors of floral ebbs and flows like all trends, but you shouldn’t be afraid to invest in some quality pieces. You can keep your florals in your closet rotation year in and year out.
