Quinta Brunson becomes the first Black actress in 42 years to take home the award for best lead actress in a comedy. Christina Applegate receives a standing ovation as she battles multiple sclerorsis. Casts from Grey’s Anatomy and The Sopranos reunite on stage. These were just some of the biggest moments of the 75th annual Emmy Awards. And then there were the fashion moments at the Emmy Awards 2024.
Emmy Awards 2024 Fashion Moments
Stars like Camila Morrone, Katherine Heigl, Abby Elliot, and Suki Waterhouse “painted the town red” in some of the most jaw-dropping dresses of the night. Others donned retro-inspired looks and contemporary takes on classic Old Hollywood fashion.
Let’s take a look at the best and worst dressed celebrities on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards 2024.

Seeing Red

I feel like this gorgeous Versace dress on actress Camila Morrone is one of the most stunning looks of the night and it’s so simple, too.

Kathryn Heigl has sure made a comeback!

Sarah Snook stunned in red Vivienne Westwood when she won her award for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

I wish this dress was better fitted, but I thought the bow embellishments were fun.

You don’t usually see a pregnant celeb in Valentino. A lot of fashion critics raved about this look, but I didn’t like it. She looks like she’s wearing a bib and the drop waist just feels cut in the wrong place. I didn’t like it on the runway, either.
There were also darker red tones.

I loved everything about this look. It was just so completely suited to her silhouette and not too flashy or over-the-top. Possibly my favorite look of the night!

A beautiful Armani Prive look with crystal-embellished velvet rosettes but what really stands out about this gown is the color.
Emmy Awards 2024 Fashion: Stand Alone Gowns
There were a number of red and black/silver gowns on the red carpet (more on the black ones below) but my favorite frocks this evening were the ones that stood out on their own. That is, they didn’t really touch on any obvious color or silhouette style and made an impact without conforming to any particular pattern.

This look was gorgeous and very, very different from the others. It was inspired by a dress from the Versace Spring-Summer 1995 collection.

Up there with Christina Applegate for my favorite look of the night and its because of the way this model wore it so beautifully. I love the silhouette and draped skirt on this naked illusion dress.

I absolutely hate this color. But Jessica Chastain could wear a potato sack and make it look ravishing. See (Padma Lakshmi in same color below under the Worst Dressed category.)

Not sure I totally understand this retro-inspired yellow dress featuring an oversize pin on the bib, but Aubrey really pulled it off – and that’s not easy!

No one looked even remotely as interesting as Selena Gomez at the ceremony, and that’s saying something.

This is a stunning Versace look on Taraji P Henson.

Most celebs can’t pull off the short dress look (see Quinta Brunson in crumpled satin) but Jenna did and it in part because the dress itself is simply stunning.

At first glance, I wasn’t sure, but in the end, I liked it!

I wasn’t sure whether to feature this because it wasn’t the most amazing dress of the night, but it IS quite lovely.

I almost put this in the Worst Dressed category, and maybe some of you believe it belongs there. I’m not a huge fan of the shorter dresses as I mentioned above and at first glance, the print looks too busy. But if you look at the frock up-close, you’ll see that it’s fun and actually quite intricate in its pattern. I believe she wore it very well.
By the way, love the name 😉
Black and Metallics
Some wore black. Some wore metallics. And some wore both. Here are my favorite black and silver looks of the night.

This is definitely my favorite black look of the night. But let’s look at some others.

This is one of the reasons everyone was saying there was a retro-inspired trend on the red carpet.

Party on the top, straight and narrow on the bottom.

She’s had a fabulous awards season run and it’s only just begun!

Quite gothic, but still nice.

I’d love to see her in something other than black.

Way to thank yourself for looking gorgeous, Niecy Nash Betts!
Mixed Black and Metallic
There were a couple of mixed black and metallic looks that caught my attention.

There was something I really liked about this peplum number.

It’s not something I would normally expect from Chanel.
And now for the metallics.

Quite possibly the best look I’ve ever seen on Laverne Cox – except for the hair, of course. I prefer it dark. I didn’t even realize it was a two-piece set. It reminds me of something a sea urchin would wear. Quite fitting it’s an archival Mugler spring 1989 gown named “Les Echineides” or “Sea Urchins.”

Natasha Lyonne is one of the most interesting fashion icons in my book. I’ve loved her ever since I saw her in Slums of Beverly Hills. This Schiaparelli look is memorable, particularly because of the trompe l’oeil knit-on bust.
Worst Dressed

You’re likely not going to agree with me on this one. I get it – she was doing something different and risky, and something about the way she wears this Pamella Roland makes it look better than the other worst dressed looks on this list. But otherwise, it’s just a shaggy carpet paper bag dress with no shape whatsoever and I just don’t like it.

Another look you may or may not agree deserves to be in this category. But Dior can do no wrong, right? Not exactly. The color is nice. I’m not even so bothered with the length. But what is it about the crinkled satin look that some actually go for? It looks like she forgot to steam the dress before she put it on.

OK, here we go. I absolutely hate this color and you have to be a stunning fashion icon like Jessica Chastain to even attempt to wear it. Grecian goddess she is not and I’m so sad that this is actually Marchesa.

This is Louis Vuitton, so it must be great, right? Wrong! This is not a dress for the Emmys. Maybe for a garden party or a lunch. Too much going on and it just doesn’t fit the elegance that came with the night.

Why??? Of all the Dior looks you probably had to choose from, why did you pick this one, Kathyrn Hahn?

Looks like Ellen and Kathryn decided to coordinate their looks. Beyond that, I’m not sure when the sheer look (with bra showing) ever came back in style. There’s a more elegant way to flaunt sexy sheer and this is not it.

I’ve seen a lot of fantastic Tracee Ellis Ross looks over the years. I’ve even featured her once or twice on the blog as a style icon. This is not one of the pieces that showcases her killer style.
