The Best Dressed Celebrities of 2023: Our Top 5 Favorites

From Barbiecore to Beyonce’s Renaissance world tour, 2023 pulled out all the stop for celebs who aced street style, timeless elegance, and red carpet risque – sometimes all at the same time.

We collectively gasped when Jessica Chastain consistently impressed with fashion-forward looks and Anne Hathaway had her Americana denim moment as a last-minute host at the CFDA Awards. And people are still talking about breakthrough star Taylor Russell, Hollywood’s newest, boldest red carpet risktaker. 

We took a look at the best dressed celebrities of 2023 and chose the following.

Here are 5 of our favorite celebs (and royals!) who wowed us with their wonderful looks in 2023.

 

Best Dressed Celebrities of 2023: Kate Middleton

Only Catherine, the Princess of Wales, can pull off white after Labor Day and still look stunning. In this case, it’s winter white and it works. The UK royal wore a bespoke coat from Chris Kerr and high-waisted Holland Cooper trousers to the “Together At Christmas Carol Serve” in early December. She added a white Strathberry Mosaic Nano bag for good measure. 

The princess had a number of stellar high fashion moments this year, including her matchy-matchy moments, like that stunning all-red look for the State Visit of the President of the Republic of Korea in November and the blue Safiyaa cape gown moment that same month at the Royal Variety performance. Of course, we’re also still talking about the coronation look and her pink sequin princess moment in Jenny Packham. 

 

Margot Robbie

Barbiecore was everything this year and movie Barbie herself, Margot Robbie, proved she was the queen of it all. Whether it was Vivienne Westwood’s floral-print corset mini-skirt and matching puff-sleeved jacket on the Barbie promotional tour or a pink Versace dress from the 1994-1995 Fall/Winter collection (see above), the blonde actress made us understand why chic Barbie fashion was back in style, even when she wasn’t wearing pink at all. 

Take for instance, her Schiaparelli black couture sequin strapless dress at the Barbie world premiere in Los Angels in July. Not only did it give her beautifully refined hourglass shape, but it looked exactly like the one worn by the 1960s doll. And those black gloves were to die for!  

 

Best Dressed 2023: Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt certainly bloomed in her fashion choices this year, and we’re not just saying that because she wore a lot of floral! The British actress wore a striking Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini long sleeve dress in a conversation with Film Independent & SAG-AFTRA. She also wore a sheer slit orange floral dress by Oscar de la Renta to the 2023 SAG Awards and a floral motif top and shorts set from Elie Saab’s resort line to an Oppenheimer movie premiere.

What I find so interesting about Emily Blunt’s floral looks is how she plays with various silhouettes and different hemlines. She also takes away the frumpiness from the floral trend and makes it modern and edgy with her choices. I’d love to see more of this trend at awards season in 2024. 

 

Tilda Swinton

There’s something so elegant, but risk-taking about Tilda Swinton’s gorgeous style. I especially love the androgynous appeal of her look and fashion. One day she could be wearing the most ladylike dress and the next, a utilitarian military-inspired jacket. Then there’s all the colors she likes to wear, or mix together. I’m never surprised when I see her in purple Haider Ackermann or a mustard yellow Charles Jeffrey Loverboy look. She’s also an ambassador for Chanel, which is why you’ll see her in a lot of the label’s looks. The one above has her pairing a Chanel dress with purple lipstick. 

W Magazine describes the actress’s style as eclectic and I think that’s the perfect word choice. I’m eager to see what she’ll bring to 2024. 

 

Kasia Smutniak (Honorable Mention)

I don’t know this actress very well, and I haven’t seen her looks throughout the year, though I know Kasia Smutniak has made her red carpet appearances, usually in black. I’m going to have to put her in the honorable mention category for this Valentino look alone. It’s stunning, it’s effortless, it looks like she mixed casual and high-end without fuss, and I feel like anyone can recreate it. The best part of this look is that you can wear it anywhere, both out for dinner or on the red carpet. But can anyone wear it like she does? I love the oversize feel of the top and and the leather of the skirt but it still feels utterly put together. 

I can’t wait to see what the celebrities will be wearing in 2024.
