As much as we love our cozy fleece-lined everything in the winter, summer calls for cooler, breezier pieces to lounge around in. After all, it’s hot out and while relaxing in the A/C may be an option, you likely also want pieces that you can stay cool in and wear outside. Plus, if you need to deal with intense air conditioning, you can always throw on a quarter-zip or cardigan! Here is some of the most comfortable loungewear for summer for women over 50.
Comfortable Loungewear For Summer
That said, there’s no reason to look sloppy when you’re having a chill day. Coordinating pieces with a tiny bit of structure look much more put together than a t-shirt and gym shorts, and you’ll be just as comfortable this summer.
Matching Sets
No matter what two pieces you are wearing, it’ll look more polished if they clearly match or are meant to go together. We’re fans of crew necks or button-ups with matching shorts (basically slightly more polished pajamas) or structured shell-style tops with midi skirts or flowy pants (full-length or cropped, choose your own adventure). This LILLUSORY contrasting border shorts set or this sleeveless wide leg tracksuit from ANRABESS fit the bill. Both of these options from Amazon are under $50 for each set, so you can grab multiple colors if the styles work for you.

Drawstring Pants
If you love a wide leg silhouette, a pair of linen or linen-blend drawstring pants has the same shape but the right ones feel like sweatpants. Just add a fitted tee or tank and you’re all set. If you need a bit more polish, throw on a light cardigan or even just a long necklace.
Comfortable Loungewear: Skorts
These are not the shorts with the weird panel in the front that you may remember from back in the day. Modern skorts look more like skirts that just happen to have matching shorts underneath, saving you the trouble of finding the right undergarments for summer skirts and dresses. For casual days, we love athleisure-style skorts like this high-waisted version from Nike.
Cushioned Slides
An extra padded slide offers more support than flip flops but serves the same purpose. Plus, there are so many options now! You can pick up a colorful pair (or multiple pairs) for a couple bucks, or go higher-end if you want to splurge and love an occasional logo. Or split the difference with this APL pair that has the same cushioning as their high-tech sneakers.
T-Shirt Dresses
Add some polish to your lounge-around looks with a t-shirt dress that has just a little bit of shape to it like the Airism short-sleeve ones from Uniqlo (it even has pockets). As an added bonus — if you must get a little more dressed up, throw on a pair of cute sandals or even fresh sneakers and maybe one fun piece of jewelry, like a long necklace, big earrings, or a chunky cuff bracelet.
Comfortable Loungewear: Sheer Cardigans
If you love a good third piece but can’t stand any extra weight or layers when it’s hot outside, then a sheer or open-weave topper like this fitted one from Anthropologie’s house label comes in handy. Do you prefer something a little on the boxier side? Try Uniqlo’s version.
Ball Caps
While it can be challenging to look sophisticated in a baseball cap, with the right one — something simple with minimal logos or messaging — it can be done. Just check out Madewell’s perfectly broken-in version. Plus, nothing is easier when you don’t have the time or inclination to style or even wash your hair. And isn’t being relaxed the point of loungewear anyway?
What do you wear to lounge around when it’s hot outside? Do you stick with A/C-friendly pieces or go a little (or a lot) lighter? Do you also lighten up your color palette or do you still wear black and gray in the warmer months? Let us know in the comments or in our Growing Younger Facebook group!
