Carol and I have been having our hair cut and colored at Sassoon Salon for nearly 11 years! Our relationship with Sassoon began in Chicago so when I moved to NYC in ’07 I simply transitioned seamlessly to their downtown location and Carol still continues to go in Chicago. But, this post is about my experience. Head colorist Hamid Latif has therefore been coloring my hair for nearly 9 years and he is the master and is without a doubt the best I have ever encountered and I have been coloring my hair for a long time. Every 6-8 weeks when I walk in he asks me what I want to do and I always answer, “whatever you think” because I trust him implicitly. Lately we have taken my hair a little blonder – as the greys increase I am heading down that road to platinum and am literally turning into my mother.
I adore Hamid and he’s now like family. I always look forward to catching up and what I love most about the salon is how low-key it is. There is no pretension – everyone is friendly and after all these years I feel I know everybody who works there. I’m like Norm on Cheers when I walk in. I also enjoy ogling and envy the precision bobs I watch being cut and I so wish I could have but know with my thick and unruly hair would never work on me. I joke that I have the “un-precision cut” which they do equally as well. But let’s get real, if you want the perfect bob, you must go to the place that invented it, right?

NYC Downtown Creative Director Michael Forrey usually cuts my hair every other visit, but if he is out of town, I am as equally comfortable having any of their senior staff cut my hair.
