It’s that time of year when white dresses become a popular fashion option. A white graduation dress for your daughter to wear under her cap and gown is probably not the type of white dress that is best for you. You’re not going to wear white to a wedding and you most likely don’t want to fuss with undergarments meant specifically to wear under white. Luckily, there is a plethora of styles for spring and summer 2022 that are not too clingy nor too sheer, but perfectly on trend.
White Dresses For Women Over 40
The white dress options from designers this year are jaw-dropping, and so are the high prices. So I found some of the most wearable styles for women over 40 (no clingy styles nor cut-outs here) that you can splurge on. If you’re like me (accident prone) you might be hesitant to pay designer prices because let’s face it, it’s hard to keep white clean and it may be ruined by the end of the season. So I also found some styles that look very similar and you can get them for a steal.
White Oversized Shirt Dress
This chic and oversized Balenciaga Twisted Poplin Midi Shirtdress adds a modern twist to a classic. It is quite collectible, but you’ll have to pay $1,390 for this work of art. It is worth it, because you can wear it year after year and year round. Imagine it it under a sweater or under a leather jacket in the cooler seasons, and you can see how it works when styled with black tights. But you can save quite a bit, sans a lot of the extra styling, with this ASOS Vero Moda Petite Oversized Midi Shirt Dress in white for only $57. (Maybe you can button it crooked… to get the twisted Balenciaga look!)
Ruched White Dress
Leave it to Veronica Beard to design a well-fitting and super flattering white dress. Yes, this Veronica Beard Ruched Shirtdress is a bit of an investment for $450, but it is so cool. However, you may like to try a similar look for a lot less. This white And Now This Poplin Ruched Dress is only $59!
White Smocked Sun Dress
The white sun dress is an ideal look for a sunny day. Stay cool, comfortable and super chic in this Proenza Schouler Broderie Anglaise Smocked Dress for $495. The overlaid textured fabric is gorgeous, and the asymmetric hem styling takes this sundress to the next level. It is one to cherish for years to come. But you can pick up a simple smocked sundress like this BB Dakuota Madison Sleeveless Maxi Dress for only $39.
Puff Sleeve White Midi Dress
A casual white dress with an easy-to-wear shape like this Altuzarra Lydia Stretch Poplin Shirtdress is one you can wear multiple times. But you will have to spend multiple dollars, too because it is $1,195. If you can afford it, by all means go for it! But you can get a somewhat similar dress from Target. This Puff Short Sleeve Lace Dress fron Who What Wear™ is now on sale for only $25.89.
Sleeveless Tiered Midi Dress
A light and airy tiered white dress is a classic option for warm weather days. This Co Tiered Cotton Midi Dress fits the bill. Co makes high-quality pieces that are wardrobe staples with lower-than-designer prices like this dress for $595. It is a great value, but you can get this Willow Palmer Shift Midi Dress without the quality and without a few tiers, for only $158. That is quite a few dollars less!
White T-Shirt Dress
You’ll look so chic and sleek in The Row Dolores Cotton Jersey T-Shirt Dress for $620. It’s a modern column of white that you can belt, wear loose, or wear as a layering base under a jacket or button down shirt for spring and summer. As beautiful as pieces are from The Row, $620 is quite a lot to pay for a white t-shirt dress. So you may like to opt for this La Ligne A-Line Jersey Midi Dress for $180.
