It has only been eight months, but the Met Gala is back in full force with A-lister celebs in the most extravagant looks. The Met Gala 2022 was part two of last year’s “A Lexicon of Fashion” paying homage to American history. The official exhibit for this year’s “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” will be on display in the storied museum’s period-centric rooms of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Met Gala has returned on the first Monday in May, after two years of COVID-19, celebrating American style and US design and if you thought Kim Kardashian’s Balenciaga face mask was something to write home about, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. This year’s hosts include Regina King, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manual Miranda as official co-chairs, with Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour as honorary co-chairs.
And how could we forget co-chair Blake Lively, who had what was distinctively the biggest fashion moment of the night. Let’s get right into it, shall we?

Met Gala 2022 Red Carpet
Blake Lively arrived on the arm of husband Ryan Reynolds but the stunning dress she wore was the real winner of the evening. How does one even begin to describe this wonder? More than just an homage to Manhattan – the gown as you see it here embodied the art deco architecture of New York City landmarks. Embroidered with crystal metallic leather paets, it comes with this tritone copper foil.
And now for the iconic moment. The oversize bow is unraveled at the waist and turned over to reveal a second look in copper green, mimicking the oxidation process gone through by the Statue of Liberty when its own copper went from brown to green. There’s more. The train is embroidered with a celestial map inspired by the 12 zodiac constellations on the Grand Central Station ceiling.
At one point, Lively needed 6 people around her working on the gown to bring the iconic moment to fruition. Well, she succeeded.
Here are the other showstopping moments of the evening:
Wearing her signature headpiece to the event, Sarah Jessica Parker looked divine as always, but I can’t help but wonder why it always feels like she tries to top herself every year. Did she succeed?
According to Vogue, for the dress code, the Met also asked Met Gala attended to channel the period between 1870 to 1890 and the dichotomy of the Gilded Age of New York.
Here are some other standout moments:
Not sure the viewers at home will agree with me on this one — the sleeves are unreasonably long and the train is a bit too haphazardly draped, but I do like the material and color of this sequined Gucci number, and I love how Jessica Chastain always takes risks. Usually they work, sometimes they don’t.
Moschino at The Met Gala 2022
There was a lot of beautiful Moschino on the red carpet. There was a lot of Chanel and Atelier Versace, too, but I feel like Moschino really had a moment at the gala. You’ll see why.
Black Gowns at The Met Gala 2022
Why did the A-listers decide that black fit the theme of the evening? I can’t answer that question, but I can show you just how much black was on the red carpet at the event. Enough to notice.
