Spring Work Wear: Best Fashion For Your Return To The Office

For a many of us, if we are lucky, springtime means the opportunity for a wardrobe refresh. And this year is more notable because not only does this time of year mark the new spring trends, it also means the official return back to the office. The verdict is still out if people are welcoming it or dreading it. Whether you are welcoming it back with open arms or being dragged back kicking and screaming (I doubt I’m the only one!), a spring work wear refresh can be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Spring Work Wear

Suiting and Dresses

As much as I love a beautifully tailored suit, I’ve never been required to wear one for my work. But I always still liked to try out some for fun. My take on the work suit was always an unexpected silhouette or a bright, bold pattern. For this spring, I prefer something loose and airy, but still chic. So something like this linen striped suit is exactly what I had in mind. The mustard yellow color is very flattering and the oversized fit and linen fabric makes for a cool and crisp option that you can wear in the spring and all through the summer.

You can also get the full suit and break it up by wearing the separates with other items from your closet. Stock up on a few modal tees or sleeveless button front shirts and wear them with the shorts. On the reverse, you can wear the jacket with a pair of jogger-style taper leg pants or office-ready jeans.

Let’s keep it going with linen options and add a dress to the mix. I’m normally one to keep my dress options simple, but I absolutely fell in love with this linen blend wrap dress. The slight balloon sleeve is perfectly on trend without being over-the-top. It’s nice and stylized and perfect for getting a little more dressed up when going to the office.

Spring Separates

For a lot of us, myself included, separates are an easier choice. Being able to mix and match my items and play around with pairings makes for great outfit outcomes. So, when looking for spring work wear, look for fun separates. You can start with a staple pair of pants. Something like these high-waisted wide leg pants are great, they are practically as comfortable as pajamas but look much nicer! Again, this mustard yellow color is perfect for spring, and I love the brightness it brings to any outfit.

For tops, I prefer something flowy with nice sleeve details, like this V-neck, mesh panel sleeve top from Amazon. If you are into buying multiples, this top is a great price point to stock up on a few assorted colors. Finally, I love this poppy-colored chunky knit cardigan. This is a perfect topper or finishing-off piece for any spring work wear outfit. Plus, if your office is anything like mine, it’s quite cold, so bonus points for keeping you warm and looking good. Did I mention it’s only $19.99?

Accessories for Work

If you choose not to update anything else in your spring work wear wardrobe, make sure to refresh your accessories. Updating your shoe game and getting a new spring bag can seemingly give your entire wardrobe a reboot. A simple lightweight slide or loafer is a great staple shoe for spring. I really like the Trotters Liz Loafer, as it comes in multiple color options, so you can go bold or you can stick to neutral. A flat shoe like this can be worn during most of the year (depending on your geographical location), so investing a style like this is an easy decision to make.

Finally, who doesn’t want a new spring bag? Having a nice tote to use during your commute is invaluable; so, grab a new one to load up your essentials. I really love the soft blue color of this coated canvas tote. The different internal compartments that will help with organization are an excellent feature for this bag.

Spring Work Wear Expert Style Tips

  1. It’s OK to be comfortable. One of the lessons I learned these last few years is that comfortable can still look chic. Matching sets, soft pants and flowy tops translate well into work wear.
  2. A little bit can go a long way. As we transition back to office work and tackle the new work/life balance, let’s remember, we don’t have to go all in with the wardrobe refresh. A small capsule collection (6-8 pieces) of new items will take you a long way.
  3. For those of you that are excited about getting back to the office, use this as an opportunity to show up and show off! Casual clothes may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so go bold with bright colors, fun prints and exaggerated silhouettes as you make your return to the office!
