The Best Trench Coats for Women Over 40: Splurge vs Steal

Spring is here but with it comes some unseasonably cool weather. In order to make the dreary days of April showers a little brighter, why not wrap yourself in a new trench coat! The trench coat is a wardrobe staple, and designers showed a wide variety of styles for spring 2022. I took a close look at some of the classic styles available now, as well as the newest trends and found six of the best trench coats for women over 40.

Whether you’re looking to invest in a designer trench coat or if you want to add a new one in a trendy new style or color to your closet, I’ve got you covered. You can splurge on a trench coat, or get one for a steal!

The Classic Trench Coat

Yes, it is expensive, but this Burberry Kensington Heritage Belted Long Trench Coat for $2,250 is actually worth the investment when you consider how many times you will wear it (maybe 50 times a year). It will never go out of style and you can wear it in spring, fall and winter. However, this Journey Trench Coat from Banana Republic is of good quality and well constructed. It has all the right touches to make it a classic too, and it is only $300.

Short Dark Navy Trench

If you already own a classic honey-colored trench you may like to add a shorter jacket version, like the Burberry Kensington Mid Heritage Trench Coat in midnight blue. This over-the-knee length is quite versatile. You can wear it with jeans, pants and skirts, but this coat will set you back $2,250. Another option is to spend less than a tenth of the price and go with this Lauren Ralph Lauren Double Breasted Cotton Blend Trench Coat for $220.

The Denim Trench Coat

This oversized Agathan belted denim trench coat from the Row is so amazing and can be a fabulous new addition to your wardrobe for $2,150. But if you want to try out the denim trench trend for a lot less, this Jofemuho Classic Long Denim Trench Coat is only around $45 from Amazon.

The Long Oversized Trench Coat

Another trend we saw for spring as well as for Fall 2022 is the long duster coat. This Lucana Double Breasted Linen & Wool Blend Trench Coat from The Row is totally chic for $3,350. If that is too much to spend, don’t worry! Leave it to ASOS to give us a good look-alike style for less. Their Weekday Trench Coat in Beige is only $127.

Soft Print Trench Coat

For a dressier looking trench, you may fall in love with this gorgeous Fendi Shady Flowers Silk Organza Long Coat for $4,300. However, you may not be in love with the price. This Open Edit Women’s Statement Oversize Trench Coat from Nordstrom is a little less refined, but you can pick it up for $119 and not be afraid to wear it!

Bold Yellow Trench Coat

Bold color is a huge trend for spring 2022. I spotted trench coats in hot pink, lilac, lime and bright orange. But why not brighten up a rainy day with bold yellow? This Max Mara Water-Repellent Trench Coat for $1,395 is a classic style in the bright and sunny hue. Or you can get the look for less with this Banana Republic Oversized Opera Coat in yellow for only $160.
