Wearable Trends: The Classic Camel Coat

This month I want to get serious…. but keep it fun, because fashion is supposed to fun, right? This month I want to focus on a trend I wouldn’t necessarily call “trendy” but it’s a classic and it’s ALWAYS in style. You can wear it for a day look or an evening look, you can invest in an absolutely beautiful designer one or go mid-tier and still get a great bang for your buck. And either way, you’ll wear it until the end of the time. Let’s talk camel coats, shall we?

The camel coat is a closet staple that you cannot do without. It’s suitable for both men and women (which makes it even more universal) and even though it was originally designed for men to play polo in in England, women have adopted this piece that serves up both fashion and function and is completely timeless. The original classic camel coat was double breasted and fell about mid-calf, but today’s modern versions have single breasts, fur, toggles, different lengths and funky fun collars. So don’t feel confined to wearing the classic style. One of my favorite modern updates to the classic camel coat is one with a wrap opening. I add a belt and a fur scarf and I’m ready for my day!

Keep in mind that because these coats are such classic pieces, it’s easy to think that you’d want to save it for special occasions or formal outings. Don’t you dare! These coats are meant to be worn and worn well. Also consider this…. you want this to be an investment in your wardrobe, so get your money’s worth. Throw it on with your weekend tee, ripped jeans and your sneakers to give a little bit of polish to a casual look.
