Calvin Harris is Fronting Emporio Armani
Calvin Harris is the new face of Emporio Armani for spring 2015. The Scottish music producer and DJ will be featured in black and white images shot in Los Angeles by photographer Boo George. The campaign will debut in January. “Calvin Harris is a truly cosmopolitan, dynamic young man who is capable of attracting the masses with his music and energy. He isn’t a model by nature, and this creates a more sincere and engaging bond with the public,” Giorgio Armani said. Harris is thrilled with his new gig, saying, “It’s incredible to be working with Mr Armani and his team at Emporio Armani. I feel an affinity to the brand ethos and have been a long time admirer of their designs.” The music producer will also front the Emporio Armani eyewear and watch collections.
American Apparel Hires First Female CEO, Fires Charney
Dov Charney, the disgraced and controversial CEO and founder of American Apparel was finally fired yesterday! This follows a suspension lasting almost six months. Paula Schneider, a former Warnaco executive, will succeed Charney as the company’s first female CEO. “Based on this investigation, the special committee determined that it would not be appropriate for Mr. Charney to be reinstated as CEO or an officer or employee of the company,” American Apparel said in a statement. Thank goodness! Hopefully the brand can move forward from here on out.
Mike Toth, Influential Brand Developer, Passes Away
Mike Toth, founder, president and chief creative officer of Toth + Co., has passed away at the age of 62. He created influential ad campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, Coach, Keds, Nautica, Hickey Freeman, Timex and Wrangler. Toth fully understood the power of brands, authenticity and consistency. He is responsible for turning several American designers into household names by developing their company process.
