I am an avid belt collector, and Lauren’s designer belts have become a part of her signature style. The belts featured on the spring 2024 runways made quite an impact. From wide waist-cinching corseted belts to oversized sculptural metal buckles and hip slung belts, the statement belts for Spring 2024 were the focal point of many looks. Top designers showed simple looks on the runway with eye-catching statement belts a la 80’s. A hip slung modern gold hook buckle belt fell casually on the hips over a black maxi dress at Tom Ford. At Alaïa, a wide back leather waist-cinching belt pulled together a white top and pencil skirt. And Brandon Maxwell featured a soft long leather belt with a large organic shaped gold closure over a linen dress. As structured as belts may seem to be, the overall look is easy-going. I know you may think that belts are uncomfortable and restrictive, especially in the warmer months. However, if you get the right kind of belt and one that fits your properly, you will love wearing it.
1. Belts can make you look slimmer. You may think that accentuating your waistline may be the last thing you want to do, especially as we age. A friend of mine who tends to gain weight in her midsection uses a “belt trick”. She wears a wide stretchy belt over a blouse or button down shirt and it makes her look slimmer. The belt defines her waistline and creates a peplum effect which also hides a tummy.
2. Belts are comfortable. Yes, belts are quite easy to wear if you look for a few features. Look for belts that stretch, or include and elastic insert in the back. Also find belts that have a lot of eyelets so they are adjustable. Avoid extremely heavy belts too.
3. Belts are a one-and-done accessory. A statement belt may be the only accessory you need. In fact, it is better to avoid a lot of jewelry when you wear a statement belt.

Spring belts are not as heavy as fall/winter belts. Here is what to look for when you purchase a belt for spring and summer. Overall, it’s time to lighten up!
- Lightweight Materials: Soft leathers, fabric and woven belts are more comfortable in warmer weather and work well with spring cotton and linen clothing.
- Lighter Colors: Look for white, neutral, pastels, bright colors or metallic belts.
- Spring Embellishments: Raffia, pearls, shells and organic closures are ideal belt embellishments for spring.
