Splurge vs Steal: The Best Transitional Fall Jackets

My favorite time of year will soon be here, and I’m not talking about fall. I actually think the transition from summer to fall is one of of the best fashion seasons, especially because you can just slip a jacket over your jeans and t-shirt. Here are the best transitional fall jackets I believe every woman should own. I searched for some of the most amazing designer jackets, you can purchase and covet for years. But I also found these look-alike jackets for a fraction of the cost. So you can splurge on one of these fall jackets or get one for a steal!

Here are the best transitional fall jackets and how to style them.

The Black Biker Fall Jacket

I can’t imagine this classic jacket will ever go out of style. So you can splurge on a exquisite Tom Ford leather biker jacket and get a lot of wear from your investment (remember to factor in the cost per wear). But if you don’t have a spare $4,950, this Topshop faux leather jacket is for a steal for $95! Faux leathers have come a long way, and you may like the vegan factor as well.

You can instantly toughen up any look when you you slip on a black biker jacket. Wear it over worn out jeans and a white tee-shirt, or over colorful print blouses and shirts. A biker jacket works over a frilly midi dress, or a blouse and pencil skirt. Try it it with joggers or pattern pants. One of my favorite looks is an all black look with black jeans and a black top. Tom Ford would approve.

The Safari Jacket

A belted safari jacket is another closet essential. It transitions nicely from summer to fall because it is lighter weight for those warm fall days. This Purdey belted cotton-gabardine jacket has beautiful details and a perfect fit for $1,030. But you can get a similar look for only $39.99 from H&M.

Wear a neutral color safari jacket over dark denim and a bright colored top, or try an all white base of white jeans and a tee-shirt for a crisp look. A safari jacket like this looks fabulous with prints like camouflage and leopard, too. Go a little wild.

STEAL:  H&M Tie Belt Utility Jacket, $39.99

The Oversized Denim Fall Jacket

A denim jacket is a classic but I’m showing you a trendier version for fall. This oversized and super faded longer length jean jacket will be one you can wear multiple ways. It will give your wardrobe an instant update. This Balenciaga jacket may have set the trend, but you can certainly find one for a steal like this Gap distressed denim jacket. The Balenciaga one has a bold neon green letter on the back shouting out their name. I suppose you can stencil or stitch on your own letters. Perhaps it can be your own name in neon green. That would be a hoot!

Wear this 80s style jacket over black skinny jeans or if you have the legs, try biker shorts. The longer length will give more options to wear over fitted clothes. This jacket will look great over a little black dress. Wear it with leather pants or casual joggers, too.

STEAL: Gap Distressed Icon Denim Jacket, $47.99

The Gold Button Double-Breasted Blazer

Nothing looks as pulled together as a sharp black jacket with gold buttons. You may have seen this Balmain jacket from season to season and for good reason! It has the perfect proportions with strong shoulders and nipped at the waist, and it is quite versatile. However, you can get a very similar jacket for a steal. This Lioness jacket from Shopbop has the same proportions down, is a little less severe looking and is probably more wearable. Note: This “steal” jacket sells out fast so pick it up today!

Dress up any look with a gold button double breasted blazer. It is super chic over a white tee and faded denim jeans, looks cocktail appropriate with black pants and a satin blouse, and you can wear it over shirt dresses, too. Tip: just be sure to wear it over a dress that is fitted especially at the waist.

SPLURGE: Balmain Double-breasted Wool-twill Blazer, $2,295

STEAL: Lioness Palermo Blazer, $88

The Printed Kimono Jacket

A printed kimono style jacket like this Etro is definitely worth the splurge of $1,850. Especially now that we like to dress comfortably. It is a perfect piece to brighten your day, and for Zoom meetings. But you can get a pretty pattern jacket for a steal on Amazon. This Weiyan Kimono is only $16.48.

This easy-to-wear jacket looks tremendous with jeans of any color, and slim-fitting tops. Try a colorful scoop neck top with blue jeans or wear an all black or white top and pants.

SPLURGE: Etro Printed Satin Kimono Jacket, $1,850

STEAL: Weiyan Women’s Tops Loose Chiffon Kimono, $16.48
