Splurge vs Steal: Heat Protectant For Hair

I never really gave hair heat protectant much thought until recently because I normally let my hair air dry. However, this winter I have been using my InStyler to straighten my hair quite a bit (video) so I have found a heat protectant to now be a vital part of my hair routine. This is important to use on color-treated hair, too. Styling tools such as hairdryers, curling irons and hair straightening irons are murder on your hair so it’s really important to protect your follicles from the damage of the intense heat (up to 450 degrees!) and to lock in shine and smoothness.

Why You Need A Heat Protectant For Your Hair

If you don’t use a heat protection spray for hair or cover your hair with a heat protectant, you could wind up with severely damaged, frizzy and just plain old unhealthy hair in the long term. Heat protectants replenish moisture to defend your hair against frying, split ends, damage and breakage.

Don’t be alarmed when you see steam coming from your hair while applying the intense heat from your styling tools, it’s just the heat protectant doing it’s job!
