Each season we highlight the best trends for women over 50 and I’m happy to report that one of my favorite trends hit the runways (once again) for fall 2022. That trend is the motorcycle jacket, only this year it is bigger and better… in fact it’s supersized! Designers showed a wide variety of oversized moto jackets in different colors, styles and materials including leathers, furs and shearling in their collections.
This newer oversized silhouette is simple to style, and a perfect addition to your wardrobe. It’s stylish, easy-going and chic (not to mention warm) and an ideal trend for women over 50 to try. Here are a few of the many ways to style oversized moto jackets for fall 2022.

The Menswear Moto Jacket Look
This Louis Vuitton aviator style leather jacket is fabulous with slouchy menswear trousers. Style it over a button up shirt with a menswear tie and a neck scarf combo to get the runway look.

The Dressy Layered Moto Jacket Look
Who says you can’t dress up an oversized shearling moto jacket? Layer it on the way it was shown at Prada with a contrasting sweater and a shiny crinkled midi skirt. Of course I don’t recommend a sheer skirt for women over 50, but you can find a similar silhouette in a metallic fabric. Finish off the look with Mary Jane pumps.

Or go black on black and style it like this look at Chloe. Belt a classic black leather oversized moto jacket and pair it with a black midi skirt and shiny black cowboy boots! You can also get a similar look with black cropped pants.

Oversized Moto Jacket Styling Tips
- Go Casual. Wear it over jeans, (slim, straight or wide leg) with a sweater (thin, thick or oversized). The options are endless because this season’s moto jacket is oversized. You can fit a lot of layers underneath if you choose to do so. But to balance the proportions, it works best to wear a slim fitting sweater with wider leg jeans, and a bulkier sweater with skinny jeans.
- Wear It To Work. Style an oversized moto jacket with everything from menswear tweed or plaid skirts or pants (like at Louis Vuitton) to a tonal or black on black look. Mix up fabrics and textures when you go with a monochrome look.
- Dress It Up! Try an oversized moto jacket over a silk blouse and pants, a jumpsuit, or over a floral or geometric print dress in a shiny or metallic fabric. You can even wear it over a sequin top and wide leg pants.
