We love how Kate Middleton mixes high-end designer pieces with low priced fashion. She is an expert at high low styling. When she wears affordable fashion it brings the Duchess of Cambridge and future Queen down to earth like the rest of us. This time she was spotted in a burgundy sweater from Warehouse and green cropped trousers from Jigsaw. These are moderately priced UK store/brands we don’t have in the U.S. but you can shop them online. I took a look at both stores, and her exact pieces were not available. Perhaps that is because once the Duchess is seen wearing something, it sells out immediately! Or sometimes she wears things she had in her closet for several years.
But where Kate does wear quality is in her burgundy Chanel handbag and Tod’s Block heel pumps…and of course her jewelry. I really like the ease and simplicity of this 2 piece outfit and I want to get her look for less. This was a tricky one to duplicate because I had to find accessories to rival her gorgeous designer handbag and shoes. Here is how to get this Kate Middleton high low look for less.
Kate Middleton High Low Look For Less
I could not find the sweater with a scallop edge like Kate’s in burgundy but this 14th & Union ribbed turtleneck from Nordstrom Rack is the same color and is only $22.97. This fitted style will lay neatly under the high waist trousers.
Kate’s green cropped pants were no longer at Jigsaw, but I found these wide crop trousers in a slightly deeper green at Warehouse for $64. Now I’m into shopping the UK stores!
Kate Middleton Look For Less Handbags
Well nothing can really take the place of a Chanel bag but this Sam Eldeman quilted bag at $79.99 will save you a lot of money. It has the bonus of a crossbody strap, but you can remove it and carry your bag with the top handle like Kate Middleton.
I had to throw this ASOS bag in as an option because is it is cute and compact… and a mere $35! The crocodile texture adds dimension and the unique knot tie detail is fit for a queen.
Kate Middleton Look For Less Burgundy Pumps
These MICHAEL Michael Kors Susan Flex Pumps are in a go-with-everything shade of wine that will give you the same heel height and silhouette as Kate’s Tod’s shoes.
If high heels, even with a block heel, are not your thing, these Cole Haan Lesli Block Heel Pumps have a low heel you can walk in. Right now they’re on sale for $105, so you get good quality for a whole lot less.
Kate Middleton Look For Less Jewelry
You don’t have to invest in diamonds to get Kate Middleton’s look. These small Pavé hoop earrings from Nordstrom are only $39.
And last of all, we all want Kate Middleton’s sapphire and diamond ring to complete her look. You can do it with this rosegold colored knock-off from Oliveti for under $30!
Styling Tips For This Kate Middleton High Low Look for Less
1. Stick with two solid colors. Kate Middleton shows us how two simple pieces in two complimentary fall colors can unify an entire outfit. Her shoes and handbag match the color of her sweater, even though they are different shades of burgundy. She plays with subtle textures like the quilted Chanel bag and the tonal leather strap on her pumps. It all comes together very neatly!
2. Wear wide leg crop pants instead of a skirt or dress. Take it from Kate, a pair of pants that are fuller look dressier than if she was wearing pants, and they chicer than a skirt. The cropped pant length shows off her shoes as well Keep this look in mind the next time you don’t want to appear too dressy or too casual. It is appropriate for business, too.
3. Style It high low. Kate shows us how her apparel does not need to be expensive when she is carrying a designer handbag and shoes. Her sweater and pants are simple pieces and it does not matter if they are high-priced designer pieces, too. By wearing solid basic pieces her accessories take center stage, and we noticed!
