The air was abuzz in the United Kingdom on Saturday, May 6th as the festivities for the coronation of Charles III and wife Camilla Parker-Bowles kicked off at Westminster Abbey. The historical event marked the first coronation in 70 years and ushered in a new leadership after the death of the reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8, 2022. Of course, we wanted to know what the royalty and the guests wore. Here’s a look at the fashion at the King’s Coronation!

What The Guests Wore To The King’s Coronation

Leaders of the world were seated alongside celebrity guests like Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Perry, an ambassador for the British Asian Trust, stood out among the 2,200 guests in a bespoke lilac short-sleeve jacket and matching tailored skirt. it was from the archives of the late British designer Vivienne Westwood.
Many joked that her hat, which featured a crinoline base with a layer of tulle, a veil, and a ribbon bow, was too big and dramatic and would make it difficult for the person sitting behind her.

Though not as famous as Ms. Katy Perry, here are some other guests that stood out.
Colorful and Pastel Suits

I had to post pictures of Queen Letizia’s pink Carolina Herrera suit from two different angles because it was so stunning.

The blue is gorgeous on US first lady Jill Biden, who wore Ralph Lauren alongside her granddaughter Finnegan Biden in a pale yellow Markarian dress and cape.

Also looking gorgeous in blue is Zara Tindall in a Laura Green coat dress.

Dame Emma Thompson wore a red overcoat and black knee length dress as a guest at the coronation.
And now for more royals…
What The British Royal Wore
Prince Charles had a number of stunning outfit changes, donning special robes and coats previously worn by other members of his family.

Under his Robe of State, King Charles wore a crimson surcoat which was also worn by his grandfather King George VI at his coronation in 1937, according to Town and Country magazine.

King Charles also donned a stunning silk gold coat that was also worn by his mother, grandfather, and great-grandfather at their coronations.
Besides King Charles and his queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their gorgeous family made an impact that day. Kate, Princess of Wales, wore an embroidered ivory silk crepe Alexander McQueen gown under red, white, and blue robes, which are a nod to the Union Jack flag. There weren’t enough pictures of her stunning look.

I’m a huge fan of these cape dresses and I thought Princess Charlotte looked darling and so chic in Alexander McQueen. This definitely looks like something chosen for her by her stylish mother.
Princess Charlotte and her mother also had matching three-dimensional leaf and floral patterned crowns, which were a collaboration between Jess Colette and the Alexander McQueen brand.

Princess Anne dons her military regalia, which she wore because she holds a number of honorary military titles.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh wore a white Suzannah London gown with lace applique at the collar and also a blue and red cape, similar to the one worn by Princess Kate. Her daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, wore a floral photo-print dress by Suzannah London.

Queen Camilla wore a white coat dress by Bruce Odfield with an embroidered underskirt.
