New this year to Fashion Focus Chicago was a featured event: Fashion Follows Interiors – “A Mad Men Event” at the Blackstone Hotel. Held on Tuesday, October 16th in Grand Ballroom the event was a success and a lot of fun. Many if the attendees dressed up in Mad Men vintage looks, enjoyed shaken Hennessy Black cocktails like Black Old Fashions and Daiquiris, and passed hors d’oeuvres. A DJ blasted 60s tunes from Chuck Berry to Frank Sinatra which got everyone in the mood to dance! After the party got going, there was an informal fashion presentation that showcased the design industry’s collaboration of support and awareness in both interiors and fashion. Using an array of mediums, each designer created a garment from unique interior design materials sponsored by Merchandise Mart vendors.
Designers had a total of five weeks to complete their garments and had to get really creative to accomplish their designs. Participating designers and their sponsors were: Jessica Fitzgerald – Vogue and Barb Landscaping, Lauren Lein – Granite & Marble Resources Inc Showroom, Gordana Rasic – Marc & Ryan, Co., Beth Stern – Fishman, Angelica Santoyo – Drapery, Karol Barrero – Garret Leather, Paul Sisti – Designtex, Audra E Kaske – Pindler&Pindler and Richelle Smith – Superior DC.

This event was a welcome addition to Fashion Focus Chicago and I hope to see it on next year’s line-up of events.
