The late Robin Williams once said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!” That might sound accurate, but in these times of unprecedented (health) crisis, for people across the world who are still suffering from the perils of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s far from the truth. Yet, as much of the world is still donning masks, social distancing, and choosing Netflix over outings, spring is upon us, and it comes, in some sense, like a rebirth, as vaccines are beginning to roll out across the globe. Fashion, in all its insistence on trending with the times, is following suit. We spotted celebrities wearing bold spring outfits.
I’m not talking about Dolly Parton’s vaccination shirts or the idea of matching your mask to your outfit. I’m talking about the return of bold spring outfits, spring dresses and bright spring colors.
Celebrities Wearing Bold Spring Outfits
Gal Gadot Spring Style – Bold Pattern
Spring is always a good excuse to wear more and more prints. From checks and stripes to big florals and tie dye, spring style is all about bright, colorful patterns. There was no better example of this than the celebs that showed up to this year’s Kids Choice Awards, a ceremony that celebrates the fun of bold looks and splashy colors that are perfect for the welcoming of the spring season.
Celebs like Sofia Vergara in Brandon Maxwell and Tiffany Haddish proved you don’t have to be a kid to wear a vibrant jewel tone. And for her part, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot served up some sunshine in a yellow Stella McCartney frock. It featured lace inserts and originally came with a belt, but didn’t need one because the swirly pattern spoke for itself.
Heidi Klum Spring Outfit – Bright Yellow
Yellow was the “IT” color of the Kids Choice Awards and it’s likely to be an “IT” color of spring. But it’s definitely not an easy color to pull off. Just ask Tiffany Haddish and Heidi Klum at the Kids Choice Awards. Heidi, for her part, made a bold statement without having the sunshine color an overall hue of her ensemble and still made a hefty impact on the red carpet.
And it was the fact that yellow wasn’t the entire look that made it happen. While the neon yellow jeans from the Dolce & Gabbana look added something to the overall outfit, even without the leopard print surprise along Klum’s backside, it was the rainbow-hued knit turtleneck sweater that really added that wake-up call we all needed.
Lady Gaga Style – White Suit
White for spring is OK in my book, but, like yellow, it’s not an easy color to pull off. While spring looks welcome the bright hue, it has to be done right. Lady Gaga is not someone that I would immediately picture wearing the color (or non-color), but she styled it nicely, even though the sky-high stilettos were a bit much (that’s Lady Gaga for you).
Wearing a Max Mara Pre-Fall 2021 belted white peak lapel blazer and matching high-waisted pants, she paired the look with Wolford’s Jamaika black bodysuit and Roman stud white handle bag by Valentino Garavani. Then, of course, there was the white neoprene-scuba mask by Michael Ngo, that retails for $240 according to the Daily Mail. Even if wearing overall white like this is a bit too much for you, spring is still the perfect time to add some white to your closet and style it with your other pieces like jeans or under your favorite sweater.
Priyanka Chopra Spring Dress – Midnight Blue
What’s spring without the perfect dress? Sure, LBDs and white frocks never go out of style, but neither does the perfect effortless look in the right color. Enter Priyanka Chopra in that gorgeous midnight blue Greta Constantine style she was seen wearing with husband Nick Jonas to announce the Oscar nominations. The look was fairly simple, with attention to detail. It included the halter-neck dress with a flounce skirt and ruffle detail, a tie-up back, and bubblegum pink pumps with jarred the look.
Ironically, it was husband Nick Jonas who chose to rock spring’s other big trend – yellow – in a bright and shimmering Dolce & Gabbana suit.
Maria Bakalova – Romantic Spring Maxi Dress
After being nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Oscar, one can safely say that Borat’s Maria Bakalova is a breakout star. That’s also true in the fashion department. Once I saw her dolled up on Instagram for the Golden Globes in a stunning strapless Armani Prive gown, I knew we had the makings of a star fashionista on our hands. And of course, it was a stark departure from her character in Borat 2.
Since then, her fashion prowess hasn’t stopped. Recently, Maria wore a Zimmermann gown to celebrate her BAFTA film awards nomination at a virtual tea event. The Botanica Butterfly gown stunned with its quiet femininity and romantic elegance. From the butterflies on the sleeves to the cutout bodice, printed floral, and puffy sleeves, this dress for me screamed romanticism at its finest and was the perfect look to announce the season.
