Best Ways to Wear Barbiecore Fashion for Women Over 50

Not that you need to get all dressed up for the Barbie movie that will hit the theaters July 21st, but it may be kind of fun to wear cat eye sunglasses and carry a hot pink clutch as you enter the show. Besides, if you pick up a piece of bright pink fashion this year, whenever you wear it you will always be reminded of the Barbiecore trend, how it pays homage to your love of Barbie…and love of the color! That’s why I put together this selection of some of the best Barbiecore fashion for women ever 50.

When I think of Barbie, I always picture the original doll from 1959 with the black and white stripe strapless swim suit and high heel plastic mules that slid on her tiny always-ready-for-heels sculpted feet! My sister had an original brunette from 1959, and much to our dismay when we found it recently, the poor doll had pin holes all over her face and eyes. Then we remembered how we would put her ponytail up into a bun, using long hat pins which inadvertently darted through her face! (So much for selling her on eBay for big bucks.)

You may have other memories of Barbie dolls from Bubble cut to Malibu Barbie. If you are younger or have daughters, you may be much more knowledgeable than I am of the changes that Barbie has gone through in recent years, and have a different recollection.

Some of it is quite sophisticated, too.

Barbiecore Styling Tips for Women Over 50

My basic styling advice for Barbiecore for women over 50 is to wear this vibrant pink color one piece a time. Here are some examples.

1. Wear hot pink shoes or a handbag with an all black ensemble, or as a pop of color to complement any other color or print blouse, dress or skirt.
2. A Barbiecore pink blazer is an easy way to accent your jeans with a t-shirt, or as an elegant evening look with a black camisole and black wide leg pants.
3. Try a hot pink top, t-shirt or blouse under a menswear plaid jacket or suit.
4. Go bold and wear a full length coat in pink over everything in your wardrobe!
5. When it comes to a Barbiecore dress, neutral or metallic shoes, handbags and accessories work beautifully with this brilliant color.
6. If this is too much pink for your taste, try the color in small doses and wear Barbiecore jewelry such as a pair of statement earrings, a bracelet or necklace.
