When three women ask me what the best concealer is for aging skin in short succession, I know it’s time for a post. Concealer is brilliant for covering spots, brightening under your eyes and evening out skin tone. But as we age, we also need it to hide fine lines/wrinkles and cover sun spots, so not just any concealer will do. We need the best concealer for mature skin.
Concealer For Mature Skin
Since aging skin tends to be drier, unless your concealer contains moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid, you run the risk of looking cakey or like the concealer is just sitting on top of your skin. Radiant and luminous, or soft and natural matte finishes tend to work best on mature skin. Look for formulas that can be layered to build up coverage where it’s needed.
As for the right color? It may seem counterintuitive but a too light concealer will not brighten your eyes. It will just make you look racoonish. Also keep in mind the time of the year and adjust your shade accordingly. For instance I wear a light medium shade in the winter and medium in the summer. And I never tan, I just use bronzer for a sun-kissed look.

The formula also contains blurring powders, which diffuse light, brighten skin tone and minimize the appearance of crow’s feet. The only complaint is that it’s not very moisturizing so make sure to apply eye cream first. 22 shades available.
How to Apply Under-Eye Concealer
For an added bonus, here are some tips on how to apply concealer on mature skin.
1. Apply a serum and/or moisturizer. This will help keep your concealer from settling into fine lines and wrinkles.
2. Apply a primer. A primer will create a smooth base for your eye makeup and will also prevent it from settling into crow’s feet.
3. Apply concealer by using the dab and pat technique to avoid tugging and pulling which is as huge no-no for mature skin. Work from the inner corner of your eye and dab a little concealer in small dots to the center of the eye. Then use your ring finger or makeup sponge to gently pat the concealer into the skin, carefully blending it outwards. If you are looking for a dewier effect, use a damp makeup sponge instead of a dry one.
4. Apply your eye makeup as usual.
