How To Get This Chic Zendaya Look For Less

If you ever wonder why we often look to young celebrities for their fashion and style, here is an excellent case in point. Actress Zendaya Coleman is only 23 years old (I had to look it up), but her black and white paisley Givenchy top and black pants ensemble is a look I would definitely wear. In fact, I would die to wear it! This look is very sophisticated, and while it looks gorgeous on her, it would also flatter many women over 40, and beyond. Her deconstructed asymmetric top is the showpiece of this look. But the basic concept of wearing an interesting black and white print top over skinny black pants with heels is definitely one to take note. This is a fabulous cocktail party or black tie outfit. I want to steal her style, but like most of us, I don’t have a budget for a Givenchy Fall Couture look and Christian Louboutin pumps. However, I found a few other ways to get this chic Zendaya look for less, and I hope one will work for you. Here are some options.

Chic Zendaya Look For Less

The Black and White Statement Top

As I mentioned, the top is the statement piece of Zendaya’s entire look. So it is important to find a top that stands out. This Proenza Schouler Zebra-Printed Wrap Blouse is not exactly inexpensive, but $790 is a far cry from the price of a couture piece. This blouse has interesting black contrast strap details and is versatile because it can go from day to evening. The long sleeve wrap style is easier to pull off than an off shoulder top, so  you will wear it more. That brings the cost down when you consider your cost-per-wear.

This Self Portrait Leopard Printed Wrap Top is less at $330. This top has similar asymmetric styling with its one shoulder strap as the Givenchy top, and has a flattering peplum style. You can see how it looks great with faded jeans as it would with black pants or even a skirt. This top can be worn year round, too.

This Derek Lam 10 Crosby top is a designer deal because it was $425, but now you can get it for $129.49 at Barneys Warehouse. This crepe top will look smashing with a pair of slim black pants and heels. Off the shoulder isn’t for everyone but if you can wear it, go for it at this price.

And I had to find one bargain top as an option. So I found this Paisley Flutter-Sleeve Top at Chico’s (where we claimed we would never shop!) But never say never, because this top will totally work for this look for less.

The Black Pants

I’ll save you a lot of money on the pants. These LOFT High Waist Skinny Ankle Pants are perfect for this look. And you can ensure a great fit because they come in modern, curvy, regular and petite sizes.

The Black Point Toe Pump

A black pointed toe pump with a stiletto heel works perfectly with this Zendaya cocktail look. But these Calvin Klein heels are only 3″ high compared to her over 4″ pumps. And they are only $109 compared to her $695 Christian Louboutin pumps!

Modern Chain Link Earrings

Zendaya’s jewelry was minimal and on point. These Alfani Link & Multi-Chain Triple-Drop Earrings give you her minimalist look for only $34.50.

Oval Stone Cocktail Ring

Zandaya is wearing an oversized oval single stone ring on her index finger. This oval rainbow moonstone ring from Etsy looks similar and is only $42.

 

Styling Tips

1. When you steal a designer look like this Givenchy top, look for similar shapes, fabrics colors and prints. Zendaya’s top is longer and over the hips, which makes it dressier for a cocktail party or black tie occasion. Find sturdier fabrics with some sheen like double face satin, crepe or brocade. Then match it with a black and white pattern that is not too casual.

2. Adjust the look to fit your body type. I loved this outfit because the top is not too fitted. But if it is more flattering for you to show off your waistline, go with a tie waist or peplum top. If you want to hide your midsection, wear a loose-fitting tunic option.

3. Simple black pant need to fit. Whether you pay a little or a lot, if the pants fit, no one will even know the difference. A pair of slim fitting cropped pants like Zendaya’s are a style I recommend. Make sure they skim your body but are not too tight. These pants work for day or evening, and the cropped length shows off your shoes!
