Labor Day has always marked the end of summer and the beginning of a new fashion season, even though the actual temperatures often tell us otherwise. It’s typically time to close down the cabin, to go back to school and to stop wearing white pants! Wait a minute! Why can’t you wear white after Labor Day? That’s an old fashioned idea, and now we know it’s not true, especially when it comes to wearing white denim jeans. We often talk about wearing white jeans all year long, but what are the best ways to style them? That’s why I decided to put together a few basic looks to show you some ideas. Here are the best ways to wear white jeans after Labor Day when you’re over 40.
How To Wear White Jeans After Labor Day
Here are a few styling tips for white jeans after Labor Day.
- Get the right white denim jeans. What exactly does this mean? Make sure the jeans fit you properly and are flattering to your body type. You don’t need to wear super trendy jeans but do keep up on the latest styles. Skinny jeans will always be on-trend as well as straight leg and flares. The newer versions have higher waists, which is actually a good thing for women over 40. Your tops will stay tucked in, you won’t have to worry about your skin showing and they look fabulous when belted.
- Wear white denim just like blue jeans! Pick any of your fall or winter looks and simply try swapping out your blue jeans for white denim ones. You will see in almost every case, it will work!
- Contrast is key. I believe contrast is the key to great fashion. This holds especially true when styling white denim after labor day. Heavy fall fabrics and materials like knits, wools, velvet, fur, leather and suede are a sharp contrast to white denim. The play of fabrics against the stark white is what makes the look striking. Don’t be afraid to pair heavy pieces with white denim jeans after Labor Day!

Edgy Biker Look
This first white denim jeans look is my favorite go-to outfit. The leather jacket and boots seem pretty heavy but they work well with the pop of white jeans. This pair of slightly flare leg jeans are on-trend. This style, a straight leg or a slouchy boyfriend style will all work with this biker look. Wear a soft basic T-shirt in a neutral, bright or even in black or white under the jacket. It’s an easy uniform you can wear all year round.

Boho White Denim Jeans Look
Another easy way to style white denim jeans for fall and winter is with a Boho look. Wear a floral or vintage print blouse with your jeans and top it off with an anorak jacket in a fall color. These button front jeans are another new trend but any style of jeans, skinny, straight or flare will go with this outfit. Wear some soft suede booties and you are good to go!

This last look is ideal for times you want to feel cozy! Or to just keep it sleek and modern. Wear an oversized sweater in your favorite color over white jeans. This pair has a slim-straight silhouette. Slip on a pair of suede flat mules and add an exotic animal print like this python print crossbody bag for a little texture.
