Let’s face it, we just want to take off the layers and the binding clothes and wear something free, loose and forgiving. But of course, we still don’t want to give up style. Enter the t-shirt dress, which has been a runway and fan favorite for spring ’18. This trend is perfect because it’s one piece that is perfect for transitional weather and it can be dressed down for the ultimate casual outfit, or dressed up with exciting accessories and fabulous shoes. Here’s how to transition with a T-shirt dress.
The T-shirt Dress Trend
This trend has come back around in spring ‘18 and I’m crazy about it! My first personal experience with this trend is from the 1990s. Back then, t-shirt dresses were shorter and more fitted; much more so than what I would wear now! In this reiteration they are looser, made of airy fabrics and have lots of interesting details; think oversized fit, waist ties and knots, asymmetrical hemlines, intriguing sleeve details, ruffles and embroidery. This casual silhouette was displayed on the runways of Christian Dior and Lanvin. So just know, there are definitely high and low options no matter your spring wardrobe budget.
How to Wear The T-Shirt Dress Trend
My favorite way to wear a t-shirt dress is for a super casual day look. Take a good basic style dress with a twist like this French Connection T-shirt Dress and pair it with a clean pair of white sneakers, an oversized denim jacket and your favorite pair of sunglasses. The finished look is effortless, on trend and most importantly, comfortable. For those of you who are looking to translate the comfort of a t-shirt dress into an evening outing, try this MM6 Maison Margiela Wide Fit T-Shirt Dress paired with some kitten heels, a brightly colored blazer and a super statement necklace. We all know comfort can be key when feeling confident and looking good, and the t-shirt dress trend this season is the ideal one to try.
