Today's Fashion Headlines: Rupert Sanderson Pop-Up, CFDA and Alice + Olivia Partnership, Martin Margiela Documentary

Rupert Sanderson Pop-Up Dubai
Rupert Sanderson Opening Dubai Pop-up
Shoe designer Rupert Sanderson has opened a footwear pop-up shop in Dubai until May 3rd. Located at the famed Level Shoe District at The Dubai Mall, it features an exclusive capsule collection of 24-karat gold-leafed shoes. Inspired by the Middle East, the London-based designer created 14 exclusive versions of his Gold Pebble style in satin jewel-tone colors. “This is a place that allows you to be indulgent and luxurious- shopping and fashion are so much a part of people’s lives here. The mall is open until midnight; even I want to shop here,” said Sanderson. The designer’s third permanent location is opening in Hong Kong next month.
CFDA and Alice + Olivia Partnering
Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet and the CFDA have signed a three-year partnership to promote young fashion talent. Each year, Alice + Olivia will collaborate with an emerging artist to create a one-of-a-kind piece to be auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds going to the CFDA. Versions of the item will also be available at Alice + Olivia stores, with the CFDA receiving 50% of the proceeds. For the first year, Bendet worked with Domingo Zapata, a Spanish-American artist. The pieces will be available for purchase at the end of this month at all Alice + Olivia boutiques. A one-of-a-kind ballgown and skirt, hand-painted and signed by Zapata, will be auctioned off this month. Stacey Bendet said the partnership “is very reflective of my brand and our continued collaboration with artists. It is also wonderful to be able to raise funds for the CFDA, in their ongoing support of our industry and its new talent.”
Martin Margiela Documentary Set for Tribeca
Yoox Group has produced a documentary on designer Martin Margiela. Filmed by writer and director Alison Chernick, it’s on the short list of front-runners in the Narrative/Documentary category at the Tribeca Film Festival. Titled “The Artist is Absent,” the film explores the creative path of the mysterious Belgian designer, who is perhaps the most elusive personality in the fashion industry. Margiela collaborated with Chernick, but doesn’t appear in the documentary. Instead, the film includes interviews with other designers, including Raf Simons and Jean-Paul Gaultier. “Thanks to Yoox Group, millions of people in the world will have the chance to know the creativity and genius of Martin Margiela, one of the most innovative personalities of the last century,” Chernick said. The documentary’s trailer can be seen at yoox.com.
