Before we can even say trick or treat, I’m seeing Thanksgiving and, yes, Christmas decorations already lining the shelves in stores. Time certainly flies, it’s so true, especially as we get older. But this year I’m not going to let it put me in a panic. Instead, I’m going to embrace the early start to the holiday season. I’m actually going to get ahead of my home decor by creating a tablescape that will take me from Thanksgiving through Christmas.
In fact, I have a way to outsmart the anxiety! I’m going to do a few storyboards, the same way I put together fashion outfits, of how I would like to decorate my dining room table the easy way. I did this last year with items in my living space, but this year I’m just concentrating on the table.

I have a round wooden dining table that is a focal point in our family room. Whether I am entertaining guests or it is just the two of us, I want to have it set up for the holidays. I don’t like a lot of holiday-obvious pieces, i.e., leaves and pumpkins or snowmen and jingle bells, so I’d like to use color, shine and texture to make it holiday-worthy.
I’m using my same formula of starting with neutral and metallic pieces and adding accents for fall and Thanksgiving. Then, with just a few simple (and dramatic) switches, I’ll be all set for Christmas, too. Doing less, especially as Christmas approaches, will allow me to enjoy the holidays. That’s another thing I’ve learned as I grow older: prepare in advance, but don’t fuss too much.
The Multi-Holiday Tablescape: Thanksgiving to Christmas
The main pieces for my table are bright and shiny gold chargers, white porcelain plates, gold flatware and a deep green vase for my centerpiece.

Crate & Barrel Jasper Satin Gold 20-Piece Flatware Set, $100
AllModern Joss & Main Green Glass Table Vase, $105
My Thanksgiving Tablescape
For Thanksgiving, I’ll spike the vase with tall maple leaf branches and set the table with this gorgeous Morris & Co. botanical print table runner with matching napkins and amber beaded glass drinking glasses.

Morris & Co. x Williams Sonoma Lodden Table Runner, $69.95

My Christmas Tablescape
For Christmas, I’ll switch out a few things. I’ll use red berry floral stems for the vase, a solid red tassel table runner, bright red napkins and deep red beaded glass drinking glasses.
AllModern Berry Floral Stems, Set of 2, $25
Noidstrom Solino Home Linen Dinner Napkins, 20″ x 20″, European Washed Linen, Set of 4, $49.99
Target tagltd Spring Red Cotton Tassel Table Runner, 72″ x 14.5″, Now $34.99
Target Kate Aspen 10 oz. Textured Beaded Red Glass, Set of 6, $23.99
(I love these drinking glasses because they are inexpensive, make an impact and I can purchase both colors at the same time.)
