I Dared To Bare – I Tried An Off-the-Shoulder Top and I Liked It

I know I have been pretty hard on the off-the shoulder top and here I am wearing one. Yes, I dared to go bare shouldered. My husband and I had to attend a Rio themed party and when I did some research I learned I should wear something bright. I don’t own anything with a bright pattern, so I was on the hunt. I was searches high and low and was striking out left and right. I had found a pineapple bag on clearance from Asos and figured I could wear a black dress like I always do a get an updo and stick a flower in it. Boring.

Wear Now & Later: REALLY Wide Leg Pants

True, super skinnies are back in a major way, but if you want something really MAJOR try going the polar opposite with super wide leg pants and jeans! We are talking almost palazzo pants here. The look and vibe is more 90’s (think Red Hot Chili Peppers) than 70’s (not Abba) so make sure the detailing is not screaming hippie. You want these pants to be almost baggy and in some cases, dare I say…pleated? If you are a bit confused, take a look at the ones I found

Runway To Real Way: That’s a Wrap! Tie It Up this Summer with Paperbag Waists

How many times in life can we wear things wrapped up perfectly with a nice little bow? Luckily, the latest fashion trend we’re eyeing does just that! Paperbag waists are a fun, flattering alternative to a regular belt this summer, and were a constant fixture at the Spring/Summer 2016 runway shows. And though the S/S ’16 runways were awash with paperbag waists in rich tones, prints and texture, we kept it simple for our summer style round-up, armed with the mission of finding neutral pieces to last all season long.

What To Wear Now: Playing With Volume

Oversize pieces and loose styles have been on-trend for a while now, and there is something to be said for the sheer comfort of clothing that doesn’t restrict movement, or potentially highlight any bits that you wish would stay in the background. Additionally lots of flowing fabric always lends some statement-making drama to a look.

However, it’s not always that easy to work this trend without looking shapeless, sloppy, overly casual, older or larger than you actually are. That said, you don’t need to be a six foot tall glamazon or incredibly slender to make this trend work for you. Let me show you how:

The Answer To Shorts: The Wrap Skirt

As I’m getting older and my legs are not looking as good as they used to, I am finding skirts to be my summer savior. I still want to show a little leg, but I’m not comfortable wearing shorts as much as I did in my 30’s. I’m guessing I’m not alone. One skirt style I find myself gravitating towards also happens to be a hot trend for summer ’16 – the wrap skirt. Unlike the versions I (we) wore in the 70’s, many of today’s wrap skirts are faux wraps, so you don’t have to worry about it untying and causing embarrassment (I have a particularly vivid playground memory/nightmare).
