Finding a swimsuit — or should we say swim ensemble — is a challenge that nearly every woman can empathise with, no matter their age or body type. However, it’s easier than ever to find a suit you are comfortable in, that looks great, is available at a reasonable price point and is of-the-moment.
All of that said, the most important thing that you should do at the beach or the pool is be comfortable and have fun! And put on lots of sunscreen, of course. So whether that means following the latest swimsuit trends, rocking a backless halter or bikini, or keeping it simple in the same black one-piece that’s served you well for years, you do what works for you.

Stylish Sun Protection
Protecting yourself from the sun and looking chic is of utmost importance at the beach or the pool, which is why we love to see so many chic long sleeved options, like this all black option from Athleta. There’s no need to show a ton of skin at the beach — think superhero sleekness!
Flattering V-Necks
There is no shortage of classic v-neck one piece swimsuits right now, so if that’s your preferred silhouette it’s time to stock up and perhaps try a more unique color, print, or texture, like the ribbed version of Andie Swim’s classic Mykonos one-piece.
Zip-Up Malliots
They can be a little sporty or a little sexy, or both. Either way, we love a zipper on our swimsuits. Show as much or as little as you want in a suit that zips up in the front. An added bonus? Suits like this one from Calia at DSG tend to keep things locked in place if you’re swimming in the ocean or participating in water sports.
Crocheted Cover-Ups
Crochet is trendy right now, and a cute open-weave cover-up is the perfect way to rock it. We prefer to keep our beach cover-ups cheap and cheerful, so this one from MakeMeChic via Amazon fits the bill perfectly.
Swimsuit Trends for Women Over 50: Shoulder Ties
We love a swimsuit that’s adjustable, and the latest styles with dramatic shoulder ties make that adjustability a key design feature. We love this one-piece from Beach Riot with its waist-cinching belt for even more flexibility.
Contrast Piping
Go for an athletic look with bold contrast piping. This trend usually makes for interesting silhouettes, so you can use contrast colors to highlight the areas you want to showcase (and minimize the ones you don’t), like with this black with white piped ASOS DESGN one-piece.
Earth Tones
With all things 90s coming back in style, it’s no surprise that earth tones are showing up in our swimwear too. Go for a minimalist bronze goddess on the beach this summer in this Calvin Klein pleated one piece — it even has that 90s square neckline.
Regardless of your swimwear choices, don’t forget the sunscreen at the pool or beach! Not only will that keep you looking younger, it prevents all kinds of skin issues. Plus you can and should always have a cute caftan, sundress, and a hat on hand when the sun gets too intense.
